Dumbo and Tomorrowland Speedway...a rant...

We always FP Tomorrowland Speedway. The nature of the ride (kids driving, parking, etc.) makes the line take a long time, and those fumes aren't something I want to be directly exposed to for more than a few minutes. So even though it's not a top-tier ride per se, imo it's always one that needs a FP.

And yes, switching to electric cars would be better for everyone's health, especially the poor CMs who have to work that ride. If only the Disney executives would allocate one of the millions they're going to make off resort parking lots to seriously renovating this out-of-date ride...

Yep to that! My kids love this ride but I agree the line moves soooo slow and I always feel bad for the cast members breathing all those fumes. Not ok Disney!

My only problem with the Dumbo queue is that we didn't have long enough to play. Does anyone know if you can extend your time past your buzzer?

I've never rode Speedway and I never want to. It looks terribly slow and boring. I'm hoping to sheild DS4's eyes from it on our next trip because I know if he sees it he'll want to go on, therefore I must keep him from seeing it at all (evil Mummy)!

Awww, take him on it. ::yes:: Some of our best pictures from our first trip is DS3 cackling while "driving" my DH around the track in their bright orange car, crashing back and forth between the rails. Is it an exciting ride, definitely not, but if you're kiddo loves it, it will still be fun. :car:

Dumbo has never been a problem with wait times for us and the Speedway is a must do! The fumes don't bother us at all. We like going to our local race track, the drag strip and go kart races.

Seriously....golf carts. We can drive a cart all day on a charge. Worst case if they can't run a full park day, they design the compartment with two batteries and it switches over. This really is not a huge engineering challenge.

An electric golf cart motor with batteries and high capacity charging facilities would still be much more expensive than a basic gasoline go cart engine.

I don’t think anyone is against updating the speedway or thinks it is beyond Disney’s abilities, they just don’t have any real reason to invest money into an attraction that has low overhead, is cheap to fix, is nostalgic by many, by nature doesn’t break down much and almost always has a line. The fumes also don’t bother a large amount of visitors.

I could see them updating it someday if a sponsor came along and paid the bill. Tomorrowland Speedway brought to you by Tesla would be pretty awesome.

I have such great childhood memories of TS. I even remember the interminable wait in the sun - and this was in the 70s, well before FP.

I was so disappointed when my son hated it! He was miserable with how slow and hard to steer it was. He wanted to get off before he was even all the way around the track.

Easy solution to the Speedway and electric car problem....electrify the rail. The cars are already on a guided track system. I know I know, it seems like a safety risk. I’m sure there is some type of system they could use to where just touching the rail wouldn’t give you a shock. Or you move the rail underground. Like a big version of slot cars we all had as kids.
