This is a dumb question..but, what are water shoes? Where do you wear them? Why do you need them? I see them mentioned alot on all the cruise boards.

They are rubbery type shoes that are worn on pool decks, in pools and on beaches. They protect your feet from hot sand, shells, rocks and keep your feet clean. Dh and I don't wear them our boys do mostly. You can get them at Walmart, Kmart, Target and stores like that. They do make them for adults as well.

You can only get them here (NJ) during spring and summer. Hope this helps you.:D

Here is a pic of DGS wearing water shoes. I was glad he had them. I was told it can get slippery/bumpy at Blizzard Beach and hot/bumpy at Castaway Cay. I think my daughter bought them at Walgreens.

We used to wear water shoes, but now buy water ready sandals like Teva's. They protect your feet, keep you off hot sand and so forth.

Either way, remember to rinse, rinse, rinse after being in the sand. We find even when our Teva's look sand free after they dry off sand always falls out of them :)

Usually they have a rubber bottom and a mesh uppers (or something that's like a wet suit material for uppers).

If you plan on wading out into the water in Serenity Bay (adult beach @ CC), water shoes ARE A MUST. Because this beach is open to the ocean (no protective nets, etc) there are sea urchins (sp?). It's not very plesent to step on one with bare feet (stinging spines break off in your foot and could cause walking difficulties for days).

Hubby and I have them. If you have an adult party..you will definately want them for the adult beach if you are going to play in the water.

Nice for just walking around in also..they are very comfy.

Thank you all so much for yr replies. DH was skeptical about getting them, but I told him yr answers and he says Ok. Esp helpful to hear about sea urchins at CC - we're 2 adults so we'll likely be at Serenity Beach and would hate to have our last day spoiled by anything as nasty as sea urchin spines!

Disney has a limited supply of water shoes (surf mocs) available for sail on the boat and at CC.

Since I have real stubby feet (size 3) I had to make a choice of Disney Princesses or Buzz Lightyear. They cost about $12. The "adult" sizes where plainer, but of a similar price.

They are terrific for the hot sand and walkways of both CC and the Disney waterparks. :earseek:
