ok-my plane flies into MCO. is this the correct airport for
magical express? another site said the airport code was OIA.
:confused3
spirit isnt a participating airline so we'll carry our bags.
will the non bag carriers & the bag carriers be in the same bus?
thanks

Yes, MCO is the official code for Orlando International Airport, Orlando's main airport. I'm not familiar with OIA, but saw a web reference to it stating that this is how the locals refer to Orlando International Airport.

As far as Spirit goes, you will be able to make use of ME's luggage handling on your way to WDW. On your return flight, you will have to take your bags with you on the ME bus back to the airport. "Non participating" refers to whether you can check in for your return fight at your resort and drop your bags off at the resort check-in desk rather than take them with you on the bus back to the airport. But everything else about ME will be the same for you as it is for everyone else, regardless of which airline you fly.

There is no airport code of OAI. Orlando is MCO (from whatever the name of the iarport used to be I guess). They would not use OAI because it looks too much like OAJ, which is Jacksonville's code.

OIA stands for Orlando International Airport, but MCO is the code (because in the old days it used to be McCoy Field).

Again, All incoming flights can use ME. Participating airlines only deals with outbound.

PLEASE,, READ THE FAQ'S AT THE DISNEY SITE!!! among others,.... it is all explained quite well.

People need to do a little research. The info is there, here, and everywhere.

The correct airport code is MCO. The media and others use OIA, Why, I don't know. The Media, we know are idiots, the others, who call it OIA, I don't know, it is MCO.

i checked the wdw site & didnt find my answer before i posted.
i checked again & still cant find where the airlines who participate
are listed. :confused3
is spirit participating?

Quite agree with you -- not easy to find this info. I went looking for it recently myself and all I could find was some info on a website for folks whose companies are having meetings/offsites at a Disney resort. Don't know if this same info applies to us tourists, but it's all I could find.

OIA = Orlando International Airport, which is the official NAME of the Airport.
MCO = the FAA designation for the field formerly known as McCoy Field, which is now known as Orlando International Airport.

Sometimes the FAA airport designation doesn't match the official name of the airport. Another example would be DCA = the FAA designation for Washington's Reagan Airport or YIP = the FAA designation for Willow Run Airport.

Not quite sure why the rude comment. If you are upset that someone asked a question that was asked before just don't answer.

Ok I just checked this out at www.disneyworld.com. After the web site comes up go to the bottom of the page and click on Site Map. When that comes up look for Help and click on FAQ under help. When the next page comes up click on transportation FAQ. When this screen omes up click on first question in list and you will get DME info.

I'm with you Vikame - I don't see a listing of participating airlines on the Disney website - have tried searches, going to the FAQ, etc. The info given is incomplete as it doesn't even mention participating airlines for the return portion of the trip.

I would not be surprised if MCO is changed to OIA (not OAI) some time in the future, but there would be an overlap period of time when both are valid. So MCO is still correct on tickets and baggage tags for now.

The list of airport codes is maintained by the International Air Transport Association, and airport codes are changed very rarely. I think it is very unlikely that the airport code for Orlando International will change. There are tons of examples of codes that don't make sense, but they're not likely to change:

Louisville - SDF (originally Standiford Field)
Chicago O'Hare - ORD (originally Orchard Field)
New Orleans - MSY (Moissant Field)
Norfolk - ORF (can't use "N" for first letter)
St. Petersburg/Clearwater, Florida - PIE (Pinellas County)
Denver - DEN (not DIA, but is called "DIA" locally)
Fresno - FAT (originally Fresno Air Terminal)
Northwest Arkansas Regional - XNA
Wichita - ICT ("K" and "W" are reserved for TV and radio stations)
Kansas City - MCI (originally Mid-Continent International Airport, called "KCI" locally)
Columbia, SC - CAE

I have always wondered why O'Hare's code is ORD. Thanks for clearing that up!
