Hey All,

So we are going to cancel a grand California studio in June since a) we are east coast and don’t want to commit to buying plane tickets anytime soon and b) we were going to be out west for a family wedding which is now canceled. So, a trip to Cali this summer is now a no go.

We borrowed points to book this trip, so when we cancel they will stay in our current use year and will not be put back. I am clear on this.

These points will not be in holding because we are more than 31 days out. Again, I am clear on this.

So, we are looking for what we can do with these points since we need to use then. My kids are currently on virtual school and I am a teacher virtually teaching, but we still have spring break starting April 2. I was thinking of booking Hilton Head (which had availability) for a few days in early April. It’s only a few hours drive from us, and worst case we can self isolate and social distance in the room, just for a change of scenery. We can bring groceries.

My question is, what happens if we book it and Hilton Head opens April 1, but my state mandates a stay and shelter, or a family member gets sick. Can I cancel and still have these points to use before the end of my current use year? Or do I forfeit the points? Or do they go into holding? I’m so confused about the rules about what goes into holding and what doesn’t.

But it’s impossible to say IF they reopen or IF they will let you cancel IF you have to stay in place, etc. It would be great to know the answers to all these, but I think we’d all just be guessing since I’m pretty sure even Disney doesn’t know right now.

ok, so, let me rephrase then. What is the cancellation policy right now for people under 31 days with reservations anywhere in April?

Right now, if you cancel within 31 days they are waving holding so they would be returned to your UY in the same status as they will be once you cancel the trip.

Instead of canceling, you can also just modify it to book HH.

If Disney ends up closing it, they will cancel your reservation. Matter of fact, you may even get an exception to put borrowed points back since the will now come from a canceled April trip

Agree that right now the points would not go into holding if you did need to cancel.

That’s a good point. We may just do that since we would go if open and we are able!

Hilton Head is closed. They may not reopen in April(?)
It is HIGHLY unlikely that they will repoen in April.
Here’s the good news, though...
I had a trip booked april 23 - 30 with points borrowed from my Oct 2020 use year.
They returned my points to Oct 2020 and I booked Oct 23 - 30.
The system won’t do it automatically- but if you call them, they’ll accommodate you. They were great about it :)
