Hey All,
So we are going to cancel a grand California studio in June since a) we are east coast and don’t want to commit to buying plane tickets anytime soon and b) we were going to be out west for a family wedding which is now canceled. So, a trip to Cali this summer is now a no go.
We borrowed points to book this trip, so when we cancel they will stay in our current use year and will not be put back. I am clear on this.
These points will not be in holding because we are more than 31 days out. Again, I am clear on this.
So, we are looking for what we can do with these points since we need to use then. My kids are currently on virtual school and I am a teacher virtually teaching, but we still have spring break starting April 2. I was thinking of booking Hilton Head (which had availability) for a few days in early April. It’s only a few hours drive from us, and worst case we can self isolate and social distance in the room, just for a change of scenery. We can bring groceries.
My question is, what happens if we book it and Hilton Head opens April 1, but my state mandates a stay and shelter, or a family member gets sick. Can I cancel and still have these points to use before the end of my current use year? Or do I forfeit the points? Or do they go into holding? I’m so confused about the rules about what goes into holding and what doesn’t.
