This may sound odd, but although we've been members for a few years, we've never used our points at our home resort BWV- we've been exchanging or cruising--Hawaii in 2 months, Whee! Okay, here's my dumb question... I'd like to plan a little getaway for next winter but we're up in the air on dates. If I book a ressie at home resort, but later have to cancel because hubby's schedule doesn't pan out- what happens to the points? I'm familiar with the $75 exchange charges and being locked in to only using points at another interval, but what happens at the home resort. Do the points just go back into my stash? thanks!

As long as you cancel 31 days or more prior to your arrival date, the points go back into your account to use as normal. There is no charge. Watch your banking deadlines. If you used borrowed points, they must be used by the end of the use year they were borrowed into. This applies to any DVC resort, not just your home resort. 30 days or less, the points go into a holding account to be used for reservations 60 days or less before the arrival date and cannot be banked.

The ONLY difference between a home resort and a non-home resort are the 7/11 month reservation guidelines. The rules for a DVC resort and trading "out" are completely different.
