Okay, Martha Stewart I'm not, so please don't flame me. :p My question is, are you supposed to refrigerate a pie or leave it out at room temperature? I baked a frozen Dutch apple pie and am not sure how to store the leftovers. :confused3

TIA!!

If you baked it from frozen, refrigerate!

In any case, refrigerate it. Bacteria can grow really quickly on fruit and the pie, being also a nice moist environment, is the perfect place for it to grow!

Hmmm... I guess since pie does not last more than a day or two around here - we must be safe. :)

i was just going to say: You have left overs?!!! :scratchin :scared1:

I think it depends what's in the pie. You could always refridgerate it to be safe but I usually just leave a fruit pie like apple on the counter.

My DH and I disagree about this point. I grew up with the pie going in the fridge. He doesn't want them in the fridge, won't eat them if they're cold, and insists we leave them out on the counter. It doesn't seem to harm them, but I can't bring myself to keep eating them, because I'm "sure" they need to be refrigerated. Do you think it could be a conspiracy to make sure he gets most of the pie? :scratchin

Alright, I was kind of curious about this topic so I checked it out.

According to http://www.bettycrocker.com/How-To/Baking-Basics/Pies/Storing-Pies.htm:

- Be sure to refrigerate pies containing eggs (pumpkin, custard and cream pies).

- Fruit pies keep at room temperature for two days; you can store them, loosely covered, in the refrigerator for up to two days longer. (In warm climates, always store fruit pies in the refrigerator.)

I hope this is helpful. It seems that the answer is no you don't have to refridgerate your apple pie. I honestly can't imagine a situation where the pie would be left after two days. Yum!

I refrigerate my apple pie, but I like it warmer than room temp anyway so it gets popped in the microwave.

Thanks everyone for the replies. :) I ended up sticking it in the fridge. Better safe than sorry I guess...
