Dumb question about kitchen in OKW 1 bedroom

Hi everyone!

I am making my grocery list because our trip is only 12 days away :cool1:

In years past, we have always stayed in a studio, but this year we added on so that we can finally enjoy the 1 bedroom

However, I keep finding myself adding things to my grocery list that we always needed in a studio, like plastic silverware, extra paper bowls, etc.

It seems like regular dishes are all available in the 1 bedroom, which is awesome, but I have to confess:

I am a germophobe.

What do you all do---do you wash everything before you use it?

Also, in order to do laundry and was dishes in the dishwasher, I assume you order soaps with your grocery orders?

Thanks in advance for any advice you can all give me on what to order so we have everything we need to fully enjoy our first 1 bedroom experience! :cloud9:

Thanks!

Chris

You will get all the dishwasher soap needed, if you do run out just call housekeeping. Same for paper towels, toilet paper, kleenex... just call housekeeping for free refills.
You will only get 1 or 2 single load boxes of ALL. If you need more, you either bring it or buy it.
You will need coffee and filters, Mr. Coffee type flat bottom. You will also need sugar/equal... and what ever spices you need if you plan to cook.

We just stayed in a 1 bedroom at OKW last week (LOVED it) and no, I didn't wash the bowls, cups, etc. I'm not a germaphobe, though, so you may want to. Wouldn't be that hard to just run a load of dishes you plan to use as soon as you get there.

They did provide a packet of dishwasher soap, but I brought along some of the powder "pods" (think they were Finish brand). We were only there two nights so only ended up using the provided soap.

They provide one All detergent, but I had brought along the Purex sheets.

There were plenty of paper towels, toilet paper, tissues, etc.

Happy to answer any other questions!

the dishwasher water gets very hot and will wash everything well.

we bring dishwasher detergent tabs with us as well as tide pods. but a small bleach bottle goes on the grocery list. bleach wipes can be handy too.

the coffee pot goes in for sure.

as much as we like the hot tub/bathtub, we'll do another cleaning, fill up and add some of a little bit of that bleach.

some people use zipper baggies for the remote, but with those bleach wipes, i can wipe down the remote, telephone, toilet seat, just saying.

Yay, thanks so much for all of the great info!!

(I confess, I'm usually a remote control in the baggie kind of girl...but if I order Clorox wipes, that will work).

Glad to know we will have most of what we need!

Can't wait!

I check the plates, cups, mugs, and silverware when we get into the room. On most trips things are clean so we just use them. On our recent trip some of the plates had a greasy film on them so I took that as a bad sign and washed everything we planned to use.

We run the dishes and kitchenware that we intend to use through a dish washer cycle. Tub gets dish washer soap and we run with the jets on. Bleach in the tub will damage the pump over time. We also do a quick wipe down with purex wipes.

We have been in the room when the Mousekeepers rinsed the dishes, dried them with a towel and put them away. There is no way that they can properly clean and sanitize with the turn over time that they are given.

Since we started cleaning ourselves, we have noticed that we come home with less colds,

We never rewash dishes and use them right out of the cabinet or the drawers. Didn't wipe off the remote control or bag it. Walked barefoot in the villa. Drank tap water. Sat on various toilet seats. Touched the bar on the doom buggy at least three times. Put my hands on the side rails of the escalator and hand rails on the ramps from the monorail stations. Placed my index finger on the touch pad at the entrance to the theme parks. Held on to the rope bridge sides over the crocodiles during the Wild Africa Trek. Didn't use one Chlorox wipe the entire time.

Still alive at this point, even after an eight night stay just a little over a week ago. Been home four days now.

ROTFL, Deb & Bill. It's been nice knowing you. :lmao:

No, just kidding.

I will do what I can to clean any "ooogh" I have control over, and then will let it go. (I wonder what the official germ count is that we encounter in a typical Disney week...I can't even count that high! Ooogh, ooogh, and more ooogh!) At any rate, I know I can't control the ooogh! LOL

Three years ago both kids got the stomach flu or food poisoning or some other nasty thing on our third day. They were much younger and one did not make it to the bathroom. OKW couldn't get anyone to help us with the carpets until the end of the next day, so it was a rough go & a big mess.

Out of a 7 day stay, we spent three "enjoying" our stinky studio. Would LOVE to avoid that kind of special bonding time with my DVC. :rotfl2:

Glad you had a nice trip!!

Oh, you live on the edge like me! I've even been known to take my sneakers off in the elevator (if no one else is in there) and walk barefoot down to the room. I hate shoes and barely tolerate wearing sneakers for the parks.

For the OP. I usually hand wash all the dishes we use during the week and then on the last day I run the whole load through the dishwasher just to make sure they are extra clean.

OMG, I never think of half of these things...I did get a cold half way through our last trip, but assumed I would've gotten it regardless when I burn the candle at both ends...I'm with Deb and Bill...I even go barefoot to the laundry rooms (studio dweller here):cool1:
