Hello,
I want to buy DH and ipod for Christmas from the apple store. Can someone tell what is the point of engraving them? Is it for theft reasons? I just thought it would be tacky :confused3 . I'm clueless about these things after all I ahve to listen to childrens music most of the time :rolleyes1. Anyway do you usually engrave with just their name? Thanks.

I would suggest NOT engraving them. I've had it done for a family member but won't ever do it again. When it gets older and you want to sell it or give it away, it becomes a less than desirable feature.

I chose not to engrave the ones for my sons. A friend had her son's engraved with his name and phone number in case it was lost. I just don't see the point of engraving them. :confused3

Thanks, I thought that kind of cheesy but I what do I know? I will skip the engraving.

I did it in case it got lost and a honest person found it :thumbsup2 Also if someone steals it you can prove it is yours. I put the last name and phone number.

I did it for my son - when I purchased it for him, all his friends had it. I thought - you never know - could get mixed up. Sometimes they leave/forget their cell phones around/behind. (You can always tell the difference with the phones). Anyway - you can barely see the engraving on it.

I got my daughter's engraved. A friend's son has his stolen at school and they found out who did it. The kid who took it tried to say it was his. The police turned it over and found the owner's name on it and proved it wasn't his.
So it is not cheesy to have it engraved especially for a kid.

Mine is engraved w/ "Zoe's Mom"- it was a gift for xmas last year. THis year, my siblings and I bought one for my mom and used a quote from a Neil Diamond song that our mom loves. It just adds something to the gift- we didn't just go to a store and pick it up. That's why we did it but whatever you decide...

I saw the engraving feature as a neat opportunity to be light-hearted and have some fun. I just ordered one (through the Apple website) for my wife. I chose to engrave it "You turn me on," a double entendre: the electronic one, as if it's talking to her, and the sensual one, as if I'm talking to her. We've been married for 15 years, together for 21 years, and she finds my humor charming rather than tacky.

That's funny! My DH would probably not want me to do that though. He is so particular about stuff, it's annoying. If it were for a kid I would definately engrave it but since it's for DH :confused3 .

We bought a Nano for DS for his 9th b'day. We did have it engraved with his name on it. He really liked it and felt like he had something really special that no one else has.

We weren't worried about resale, he's 9, if he ever upgrades and I don't see a need for that, it will then be given to DD. There will be no resale value left by the time they're through with it. :teeth:

I just ordered one for my son -- I had it engraved simply

First name
Last name

I can guarantee this thing will get lost at least once, or he'll lend it to someone and having his name on it will help us get it back.

Originally I was going to write something like Merry Christmas, name. I love you, Mom, but I think most boys would rather not have their friends see something like that.

I was wondering about the engraving also. Can they do that for me in the Apple store or do I have to do it online?

I was thinking of getting a Nano for DH for Christmas. Our last name is Strickland and when he rates ball teams for the newspaper (he's a newspaper sportswriter) they title the column "Strick's Picks". So I thought the Ipod could have that engraved on it - since the songs would be his picks.

Well, I received my wife's gift today, the iPod Shuffle, but they didn't do the engraving! I just e-mailed back to ask them what they can do about it.

Pretty amazing info: I knew they were manufactired in China, but they're actually sent FedEx FROM CHINA! I ordered it on 12/1, it shipped on 12/2, and I received it today, 12/5. Best thing? Shipping was FREE!

My DB bought my ipod for my birthday and he had it engraved to say "Das Baach's Super Dreamy Ipod" :lmao: Now I know you are probably like What? but it's little sayings we have for each other and only WE get it. I love that he did that for me because it made the gift that much more personal. I would never try to sell it or anything so I don't have to worry about that but to each his own I guess. :)
