Dumb Question about DDE

I just called up to get my DDE card and it was 65 dollars.

Is there a DVC discount?

My silly self didn't mention it because I xfered from MS after making an OKW ressie, so I assumed she knew.

Yeah, I could go looking, but you guys are faster :)

There is no DVC Discount.

I guess they raised the price. I got it last December and it was $60. They gave me a temporary card good through Jan 31,2007

When I got home and saw my permanent card which came in the mail, it is good through Jan 31, 2008. So I really get 13.5 months usage out of it.

No DVC discount. In fact, DVC has nothing to do with DDE. DVC gets you the discount on the AP...which qualifies you to purchase the DDE.

$65 now, huh? It went up another $5 since we bought last year, which was already a 20% increase over the previous time we bought. Hopefully Disney is not trying to get too greedy on raising the price on this. It's not like they're losing money even with the discount!

When I ordered mine about 2 weeks ago, they didn't even tell me the price. I was surprised when I read here that it was now $65.

I paid $60 for ours, I ordered it around Jan. 17-19. I guess we just missed the increase.

I bought the card this past August and I don't think I would buy it again. Correct me if I am wrong on this, but don't DVC members already get a dining discount at most of the restaurants in WDW? I know that AP holders get a discount as well, 10% which is what I think DVC members get as well. Granted, it is not the 20% of the DDE, but to have to pay $60 to get 20% is a little much.

Mind you, I have used it on our past 2 trips and I will use it on our trip next weekend but that is it. We won't be going back again to my knowledge before it expires.

Just my $.06

I guess a five dollar increase isn't too bad. I purchased in Sept. at $60. I will get it again even if the price goes up again. We have saved so much money with the DDE card! I wish I had held on to all of our receipts from this last trip. Eating at Signature restaurants, our discounts ranged from $25 to $45 dollars each time. It was accepted at every table service meal we had. Including CRT & Akershus Princess meals.
The DVC discount is 10% at some restaurants & doesn't apply to the alcohol purchases. The DDE card is 20% on food & alcohol.

If I understand this correctly, you only need to spend $300 on dining before your initial $60 has paid for itself. I can see where this could really be beneficial for folks that go multiple times a year.

The only in Park AP dining discounts are at EPCOT 10%, lunch only, Monday through Friday, no weekends. There are a few 10% to 20% dining discounts at DtD.

DVC members also are 10%, but the discount is certainly not on "most" restaurants at WDW. While DVCers do get discounts at many resort restaurants, there are very few park restaurants offering a discount, one at MK (Tony's 10%), two at MGM (H&V 10% and Mama Melrose 10%), four at EPCOT- lunch only (France 20%, China 20%, Morocco 20% and Mexico 10%), and one at AK (Rainforest 10%).

The DDE also includes a discount on "adult" beverages, that the AP and DVC discounts do not.

This chart compares the AP, DVC and DDE dining discounts: http://allearsnet.com/pl/disc_dining.pdf The DVC and AP discounts are not as extensive as the DDE and, as Chuck stated, the DDE also covers alcoholic beverages which the others do not.

Just to add that the DDE card is good for discounts at practically every WDW resort restaurant. And for those resorts that don't have any restaurants, it's good at their food courts. Every little bit adds up.

May I also add my own Dumb DDE question to this thread?:

Is the DDE discount based on a per person basis? In other words, if I have purchased a DDE card, but no one else in the group has one, do I get a 20% on the whole table's check or just my indiviual meal and drinks?

thanks.

DDE discount is good for up to 10 people. All must be on the same check. So bring a party

I too ordered the DDE card a 3 weeks ago and paind $60. It is a GREAT deal if you go with enough people or go frequently. You get the discount on the entire bill up to 10 people. Last year, I took 7 people for 8 days and ate at Flying Fish, Citricos, Le Cellier, Marrakesh, 50's, Boma, Artist's Point and Jiko (twice) and saved a fortune. One dinner at V & A and you've almost paid for the card.

You also get a few other discounts with the card: free valet parking at the resort where you are dining and half-price admission to PI for yourself and one guest. There is a good description of the program here: http://www.allearsnet.com/din/dde.htm

Yes, it's 20% off the WHOLE BILL!

I guess we eat & drink more than most!:lmao: We saved more than the $60 on our 1st trip. This was just DH & myself on a 4 day food & wine fest trip.

This last trip with a total of 4 adults & one child gave us HUGE savings! Yes, it covers up to 10 people in one party. AND covers all liquor purchases at table service restaurants.

Someone on the board had said it covered meals& drinks in AK because they did not have any TS restaurants. This proved not to be the case. I asked more than once.

Has anyone had tried to use it at Resort Lounges/Bars?

We used it at Tusker House in December. I haven't tried to use it anywhere else at AK.

Shovan, we've used it at Tambu Lounge. It is good at the lounges but not pool bars at the resorts with which I'm familiar. I think someone posted about using it at a pool bar at maybe CBR?

And we have saved the $60 on a single meal!:cool1: I'm sure not going to quibble over $5.

But the last time we purchased was a year ago Dec. right before the extra charge for the second card was added. We need to order a new card before next trip and really can't decide whether to get the second card. We do eat the occasional meal apart but it is so hard to predict ahead of time how many times that will happen in a given year.

Used it at Pizzafari in December. And the POP Century food court.

Price went to $65.00 effective 02/07. The $5.00 discount for renewals also disappeared. :sad2: It takes 3-6 weeks to receive the card via mail. You can receive a temporary card from Epcot Guest Services with 24 hour lead time. :yay: I have heard rumors that the max number to receive the discount will be reduced to 8 or maybe 6. :sad1:
