Leaving next week and deciding how much cash I should bring. Can you charge in restaurants and counter service to your ROOM KEY and then pay when you check out? Oh------My husband also wants to know the same thing about his beer around EPCOT. Thank you for ant help. Melissa :goodvibes

You can pretty much charge everything to your room key at all the parks/resorts and any Disney owned place in DTD. I think even the ice cream and popcorn stands allow this. We put our entire trip on the room key including gifts etc.

You can connect a credit card to your room key, you cannot pay cash at the end, it will be on your cc.

The way around this is to stop by the front desk the night before you leave and give them the cash to apply to your account.

Actually, I gave the front desk a certain amount of cash on my account at check in. It took her a few minutes to figure out how to do it, something about a change in the system, but it was done. I just kept up with how much we were spending as we went, got a print out ever so often of the charges to the room, (which I'm glad I did b/c a phone charge was showing that I did NOT make) and all was well. This kept me more in line with not spending above my allotted amount for extras. The same reasoning I only use a debit card and not a credit card. If it's not in the bank, then I can't spend it theory. :rotfl:

There are some food kiosks that do not take room key charges because they are not Disney-owned. I know that this is true for the pastry and coffee cart at the entrance to World Showplace, just to the left of the Off-Kilter stage. I think there is something in France like this too -- maybe the crepe stand?

This is just what I needed to know. I have saved my spending money and I didn't want to carry it in the parks or put it on my cc at the end. This is good to know. So as long as I pay my room charges with cash by the night before I check out, I should be ok?

I will carry a little with my for the places that will not let me charge to the room. Thanks for the info. Melissa:goodvibes

We charged everything (and I do mean everything) to our room keys for 10 days -- including beers at Biergarten, beers in England, beers at the Barefoor Bar at the Poly Volcano Pool... smoothies, gelato, pretzels, Mickey Head Ice Creams, popcorn, and pins-- everywhere... Oh yes, we ate meals too! I am sure a few do not accept it, but we charged all the items we bought at DD also. We personally never found a place that wouldn't take it-- no matter how small.

Upon check-in, I told the CM I wanted to pay cash. They told me that the charges would be put on the CC at midnight the night before checkout, so just to reconcile with them before that. I went a few days early when I felt my total was close to $1500, took care of it and started again with the $1500 to charge. Luckily I didn't get there before checking out...

One strong suggestion-- be sure to check your KTTW when you get it back either at a TS (since they take it away.) or especially if the bartender holds it for a tab. DH was given the wrong guy's card after watching football and drinking beers for a couple of hours at Barefoot Bar. (It was charged to the right account.) We didn't realize it until we were done with dinner and the front desk fixed it immediately. No problem, but it is a good idea to just check the name.

at the deluxe hotels, the credit limit is $1500 - you can put up to 1500 on your room key and then you have to come and zero it out and then start again..
interestingly, at the values, the limit is $500....

and yes, we put absolutely everything onto the room key...

In addition, the restaurants at Swan and Dolphin do not allow you to charge to the room key, but the gift shops in those hotels do.

Right, I didn't clarify the $1500 Deluxe part. The limit for Mods is $1000 and Values is $500. That is why I headed down to pay at the $1500 limit, since I didn't want to get my room card rejected (oh, the embarrassment...:rotfl: ). It was extremely convenient to use the room key-- my 13 yr old did all her charges on it also when she was with another part of our Grand Gathering--and we stayed within our budget quite easily!

Another option is to buy a Disney gift card before you go and load it up. We paid cash for this then used it for everything without having to take a lot of cash on the trip with us.

It probably doesn't apply to the OP's situation, but FYI, you cannot charge annual passes to your room key. APs have to be purchased at Guest Services in DTD or at one of the parks, and you have to pay in cash or credit card. They may take checks too, but I have no idea since I leave my checkbook home.

This is a good idea. I purchased them for my children but never thought to do it for myself also. Thanks for the tip. Melissa :goodvibes

Why carry all of that cash with you on vacation?? If you lose it or it gets ripped off you are done. That it is why god made credit cards and points!
