I hope someone can help me. I have been looking online and researching this but still cannot seem to know for sure. I have read a couple of posts where people reference checking e-mail on their Kindle but the Amazon website doesnt mention this feature that I could see.

If you get the WIFI Kindle, can you read and send e-mails through a site like Yahoo? Can you surf the web?

Sorry for the dumb question ;)

The web browser is VERY limited. If its a website made for mobile devices it works better but VERY LIMITED! I can check the weather, etc but nothing with much in the way of graphics. If you want to surf the web with it I would look in another direction.

Go to kindleboards.com. Youll find almost all of your kindle questions have already been answered there. I know that its possible to use the experimental browser to get online and check some webpages including email. Its very slow and cumbersome. The kindle was not designed to be anything more than an ereader. The alpha keyboard is not laid out identcally to a qwerty keyboard (keys are not offset) and its hard to type on. Just entering a url takes forever! When you do get to a webpage, you will not see the graphics and display like you would on a smartphone. There is no mouse to control the cursor, so moving around a website is not easy. If having web browsing is something you want on your ereader then you may need to wait a few more versions to get it.

Thanks to you both!

I dont have to have the web browsing but I got excited thinking it might work. I dont want to spend the money for an IPAD so the Kindle will work well for me - i just wanted to know about internet access too.

Thanks!
