So last night I had a family Halloween party at my house. After running around all day like a maniac trying to clean, cook, bake and decorate 4 dozen cupcakes ( my DH calls me Betty Crocker by day and Betty Rocker by night ;)) I vowed to myself no more! No more stressing, cooking, cleaning, decorating, etc. So what did I do? Well, by evening's end I had invited 17 people over to my place for Thanksgiving dinner. Add that to my family of 6 and we'll be one great big disfunctional group of 23! Just shoot me now....please!

Sounds like me and I can relate to the Dinner for 23. Plan well and early and you will have lots of fun with it!

Have the guests help you cook (or bring something!) It makes a big difference.

I'll never forget the year my cousin INSISTED on hosting Thanksgiving and ended up inviting over 40 people! She didn't plan very well, and we ended up running out of plates and forks. Some of us had to wait for someone else to finish eating so we could wash the dishes and serve ourselves. Sheesh. Talk about hectic. She's gonna kill me for sharing that story :rotfl2:

So anyway, plan ahead! And I think you'll be fine.. :goodvibes

OMG, that's terrible! But very funny :rotfl: . I guess everyone probably has some Thanksgiving gone wrong story. I just hope this year it won't be me! Thanks for the advice though.

I hope you live in an area that isn't prone to wind storms. ;) I remember the power going out one year (just as my guests were arriving for Thanksgiving dinner). I was really sweating it, and was just about ready to fire up the Weber and barbeque my first turkey, when fortunately the power went on. It is kind a running joke in the NW about having power and Thanksgiving, because that time of year tends to bring the windstorms. Then another year, again we lost power, but that time it was a power overload - too many of us on the same grid firing up our turkeys. :rotfl:

have your husband tell them your having mental problems and you didnt mean to ask them over

LOL!

Yes, ask people to bring things. Or buy sides already made (we like Honeybaked!)

And use paper plates and plastic utensils. We did this one year when we had a houseful. There are really nice ones that come out for the Holidays.

But did everyone get to eat? When we go to my SIL's for dinner (which is EVERY holiday because she INSISTS it has to be at her house because her house is the best...anyhow back on track...when we go there we eat something before we go because she NEVER has enough food for all that she invites. She doesn't want leftovers, so she doesn't cook enogh! My MIL has taken to bringing food over and I make something too. We actually joke about it now. My kids will ask what I'm making for dinner before we go have dinner at Aunt Mary's house.

you know...there is a nasty strain of the flu going around, it could hit with a vengence the monday prior (plenty of time for someone else to step up to the "plate") ;)
