Hi there,

We've decided to purchase AP's for the first time this August and have a question about how they work. Do you get a separate card that you need to carry with you? Is it separate from your room key or do they somehow link them? We've had the "Keys to the World" previously, so it's a bit hard for us to conceptualize.

TIA! :)

APs cannot be linked to your room key. They are a separate card made of Tyvek - it might feel like paper, but it is a very, very durable material.

Annual Passes are separate from the room keys, there is much info, including name, expiration dates, purchase date, activation code, etc. on an AP, so it can not be added to a room key. And as Tara says, they are nearly indestructible, though they feel much like paper. I've only had to have one replaced in several years.

Thanks - that helps. We had the feeling that was probably the case. So it sounds like we need three cards (our Membership card, the room key and the AP).

Hopefully we can manage to not misplace any of them! We had one incident with a Key to the World card last year (it was left in the hotel room with the dirty laundry) :rolleyes1, but a CM at the Magic Kingdom was able to replace it in a jiffy.

Maybe I'll have to institute a "roll call" for cards this summer!

I have a small neck pouch, similar to this photo, where I keep my DL, DVC Mem card, AP, room key, Tables in Wonderland, and a credit card (in case the Disney room charge system goes down). I wear it at Disney and leave my regular wallet in the room safe.

The little pouches work well, but we usually keep our AP, room key, credit card and member card in the little folder they give you with the AP. I usually tear out the instruction part so there is more room for that other stuff in there. Then it fits nicely into either the lanyard pouch or a pocket.

While the paper is very sturdy, I've had issues w/ my AP demagnetizing. I'm sure to keep it away from my cell phone and credit cards, but it still happens fairly frequenty. I end up having to replace it every trip.

Our AP's demagnetized 4 times this past spring break. Be very, very careful not to put them any where near a credit card, or any type if magnet!!!

If you would forget your AP, just go to guest services and show your ID (another card to carry) and they will reprint it.

Wow now that you say that I had to swipe my AP pass more then once at each park in May and I just got it! People I traveled with used passes from 2000 that had no expiration dates and never had a problem!
