Anyone on?

I was on it, did well and blew it. Want to re-start and wanting to know if anyone is new over the past year.

I'm not, but I read this as Dunkin' diet. :rotfl: Now that is a diet I could stick to!

Diets don't work on the long term, you need to look at what you are eating and make realistic and long term changes to what you do. Don't try to change everything at once, small steps over time will be more beneficial and will succeed better.

Start with simple things, like cutting out soda (this includes diet). Then work on replacing foods with healthier options. Don't think you cannot treat yourself though, like if you cut out soda and a month later are out with friends and you have a soda that you just failied.

I SOOOOO WISH I could CUT out SODA!!!!!

I give it up for a day or so, then boom, full force back - diet soda that is.

I just find myself going back to it... why is that?

And not just a sip, a largeeeeeeee glass all the time.

It takes 28 days to form or break a habit (really breaking a habit is just forming a new one). You need to be very deliberate and conscious about your decisions, stop yourself, when you have the craving just stop and get a glass of water, or if you cannot cut out the sweetness replace it with something small (ie. a piece of gum).

Changing your lifestyle is not easy, it takes work, but in the long run it will be much better for you then trying to diet off and on.

I know from your posts you are worried about weight and health along with a few other medical conditions that plague me, I would tackle the diet soda first.

It really is stopping you from feeling better and or losing any weight. Diet never solve the problem, but once you take the 28ish days to break the habit of Diet Soda and all things diet at this point, then you can try a diet to jump start your weight loss.

Once you start your weight loss you can start with any diet you want that gets your body the nutrition it needs, but then you need to move to calories in/exercise out. That is truly the only way to take off weight and keep it off.

So you have 2 very big life changes to handle. Remember the soda is an addiction. An addiction that you need to stop. It can be done. I find many people who post really are not ready to take that commitment. The huge final step. I quit smoking 18 years ago, but it was my third time trying and I really wanted it at that time.

Now I am in the same boat as you. I have to lose the weight. I am slowly changing the house over and throwing out the foods I know will be hard for me to resist. Then I plan on locking the snacks in a cupboard and only giving the keys to the family members who can eat it responsibly. Oh yeah, that is everyone but me!:rotfl2:

Good Luck, I really hope you have the conviction to make yourself healthier and happier.pixiedust:

My DH is totally addicted to Diet soda. Last year we both went on a diet - he quit diet soda and that along with the diet we were on enabled him to lose almost 60 pounds. He went right back to his diet soda and put all the weight back on and then some. The sad thing is that while he was off the diet soda his type 2 diabetes was totally under control and he was even to the point that he did not have to take any of his medications. I wish I could convince him to give it up for good :confused3

"Diets" don't work - they are a short process to a temporary gain. Lifestyle changes are what keep you happy and healthy.

Breaking the old habits is a difficult task. It takes 28 days to implement the new lifestyle change into your daily schedule. Start with one or two changes and separate them out, some of the next ones can overlap. Do not hang yourself up on the days in has been since or amounts you have had since. Go "I am limiting myself to x number of y item a day/week" and see if you can keep up with it. Set rewards, but don't always do this or always take the reward - you may find your treat to be something other than what you gave up.

It is no surprise that when you treat your body better you will be happier. Be it weight loss, muscle gain, or a combination of the two - seeing progress brings much happiness. Be kind to your body and it will return the favor. Recognize that a doctor or dietitian doesn't want you to be healthy, they will not make money. Eat as close to the ground as possible.

Don't give up. :flower3:

Yeah-soo add me to the list of people who automatically thought doughnuts! What is the Duran diet?

I know nothing about the Dukan Diet. I never even heard about it until now. What I do know is that some people like the structure of a diet, even though all of us know that a permanent change in diet and life style is best. My question is, when someone asks about a specific diet, why do they get a "mini lecture" that diets don't work? Diets work for a lot of people who need structure to ease into permanent changes. Why not just answer the question? Just wondering.

I had to read what the Dukan diet is. It's similar to Atkins.

I, actually, think that some people do need "diets," at least to start, until they get the hang of portion size and calorie control. To me the Dukan diet doesn't sound like one I could follow, reasonably, for a life time. My ister did Atkins, and she did lose a lot of weight, but she had a terrible time with kidney stones, and she did gain all the weight back after she went off the diet (oh, and had a baby)

My mother has been having great success with Weight Watchers. She is 76 and has some mobility issues, but she has been walking, not far or fast, but walking. I think the thing that she really likes is that it is not restrictive, you can eat anything you want, but you have to work it into your daily plan. So, for instance, if she wants to go out for dinner and splurge, she has to plan her other meals so that they are "lighter."

It has, actually, taught her a lot about portion control and high carb/high fat foods. She has been losing about 2lbs a week since starting.
