Duggar boys help save little girl's life

Great story - thanks for sharing.

NOw I'll popcorn:: & wait to see what negative things are said just because it's the Duggars -I'm sure its coming...

For once I won't say anything bad about the Duggars but good gravy wth is wrong with the parents of that little girl to spell her name like that?! I hate the trendy idea to stick in extra letters and Ys. Blech.

What happened to the driver, were they seriously injured?

The grandmother was the driver and no, she was not seriously injured. She drove the car and helped carry her granddaughter into the office after the accident.

I bet she was wearing her seatbelt

Oh I can tell you what'll it be. After emergency personel got there, John David turned on his phone video. It's on the web. He'll get crap about that I'm sure.

But I've never seen anyone with video capability that didn't film any "big" happening so I'm not against that, don't know that I would have put it on the web, but I might have videoed it.

If it shows up on the show that'll start another firestorm.

ETA: Well with further reading I see that debate HAS already started. Whatever, Jesus could come down and perform a miracle in the Duggars house tomorrow and I swear, people would say that the Duggars staged it for publicity, and are weird for taping it. LOL Personally I figure if they show it on the show maybe TLC will fork over some money to a family that is going to need some cash in the coming months.

:thumbsup2 And I wonder..just who will get money for the showing of that.
Sorry, just because 'we can' doesn't mean we should IMO. I think that they helped, and that that info was shared was fine, but I just can't think of a single reason to have taped that. We live across the street from someone that did something so bad, 18 people, including children ended up dead. Did I think Fox had the right to sit on my lawn with a hugh truck that had a camera on a long post and tape the man's very young children standing in their bedroom window staring out crying, and put it in a national magazine? Even if it meant more mags sold? Nope. The kids weren't able to give permission to be shown and they had done nothing wrong.
Do I think it's better if TLC does show the tape and dangles money in front of the little girls parents to make it ok to show? Nope. But then, I've also come a long way from thinking these shows were fun to watch, to now believing that we just show too much private stuff in the lives of children. And in this case, I assume neither the child or the parents had a say in the taping and showing.

I guess some of us see things like a 6 year old fighting for her life as "sacred" and not an event that should be recorded for your own use (whatever that may be). I think anyone that does that is a little sick and twisted :rolleyes1
Video taping some dude trying to sell you a car is not even close to recording a lifeless child being worked on by EMT workers, and you can't really compare something so trivial as that to a young child at what could be the last moment of her life. If you don't care about her being videoed while being saved, how would you feel if she hadn't been saved and that video ended up on youtube for all her family and friends to see? Does that make any difference to you? Just because we have the technology to do so, doesn't give us the moral right to video tape everyone elses moments (good or bad) in life to put on youtube.

If nothing else, they would prob ask Jesus if he could do it again, this time on tape :lmao:.

I don't think most (if any) of the Duggars things are staged. I certainly didn't think this little girl being injured was, or the early birth of the baby. I do think that they were smarter than J & K, in what decisions they have in what will be shown and but I also will continue to be surprised that this family (and others) have their lives on TV. I really don't see the point. Most of us don't have anywhere near that amount of kids, the money they have, the size of house, and would never be able to use what teachings they are supposed to be showing us. I guess I just don't get the point of having them out there in the public.

As for the original post..good for those boys in knowing what to do. I hope it encourages other's to take CPR courses. The life you save could be a family member as well as a stranger.

The debate isn't about the Duggars, its about whether or not its appropriate for someone to video tape a person when 1)its a minor child 1)they don't have permission 3) when its a stranger and 4) when said person could be dying/dead. I don't care if Jesus himself came down and video taped what happened to the little girl here, it would still be wrong IMO.

Im sorry! The news report I saw didnt say that?

They said the little girl choked on a chicken nugget and stopped breathing.

I read in an article yesterday that she was in the front seat, no seat belt and that the airbag deployed. Not sure of the accuracy of that article or even what paper or organization it was with. I will see if I can find it.

She was eating a chicken nugget though and that was lodged in her throat.

ETA: Can't believe I actually found the article. http://www.4029tv.com/entertainment/22420557/detail.html

The girl was sitting in the front seat, airbags had been deployed and she wasn't wearing a seat belt, he said.

thanks! I saw to news reports online and both only said that she choked.. I googled her name and the only place I saw that said she wasnt wearing a seatbelt was eonline.com

Well, I'm not the moral police so I will not damn anyone for their actions. Would I have videotaped something like that? No, but that doesn't mean I'm superior to someone who says yes. Since you have a moral issue with this incident being taped let me ask you a question, have you condemed the hundreds of news outlets that show video of catastrophic events on a daily basis? The World Trade Center towers collapsing, various building fires, car accidents, plane crashes and train derailments, to name a few incidents where people have lost their lives, as far as I've read, this girl is alive. I see this whole issue as being nothing more than for people to vent their ill feelings about what the Duggars do or don't do. Nothing more. This really has nothing to do about a little girl, if it was some Joe Shmoe videoing this, no one would be the wiser and this wouldn't even be a topic of discussion.

I can tel you without a doubt that if I witnesses a child, or anyone for that matter, receiving CPR to save their life, there is no way in HELL I'd be videotaping what could ultimately be the person's dying moments. And I don't think I know anyone that would.

I can't imagine seeing that and thinking, "I really need to record this." That is just plain sickening!

I'm not claimimg to be on moral higher ground than those who video tape this, but I do have to wonder what it is about someone that makes then feel that they have the right to video tape someone else at their most vulnerable state, for their own personal pleasure. Its like a non sexual form of voyeurism, at its worst. Unfortunately our society is plagued by it thanks to shows like the Duggars, and all those other reality shows. They fool us into thinking that we have the right to "spy" on and own what should be everyone else's private moments.
As far as the news, I do think that there is way too much focus on the horrors of the world, however thats the job of the news, to report these stories. A single person (Duggar or otherwise), taking a video on his cell phone of a little girl (that he doesn't even know) while she may be dying, just to have it for the heck of it, to me is a little sick. To release that on the internet, to me is just wrong. YMMV.

I watched the video and it looked to me like he purposely framed it so you couldn't see the girl.

It was much less offensive to me than the people who filmed that guy who got trampled and killed on Black Friday back in 2008. How could they??

I think people of a certain age just video things (whether they themselves are part of a reality tv show or not). But yeah, there need to be some boundaries. At least he didn't start filming until the paramedics had taken over.

I am most horrified by the fact that a 6 year old child was A - in the front seat AT ALL and B- totally unrestrained. If she have been properly restrained in the back maybe she wouldn't have been injured at all. :sad2: It's a good thing someone was there who knew what to do to save her.

Prayers and well wishes to the girls family. I hope she makes a full recovery. Thank the lord that the Duggar boys were there and knew what to do to help save that girls life. I would imagine, that is all that her parents, family and friends are thinking and feeling right now. Duggars should be proud of the men those 2 have become. :thumbsup2

I'm sure they are very thankful..but to me, once I realized they video'd it and put it online, while I would still be thankful, I would wonder why they even thought to do that. I would be so busy praying that this little girl makes it, that pulling out my phone and taping never would have crossed my mind. No matter who the taper was. I felt the same way about that person who took the video of the lady that got malled by a bear.

While they deserve all the kudo's, for performing CPR on that child, and good for them for knowing how. the taping leaves a sour feeling in my mind. I do see 9/11 as a little different. That was news that affected the world. Obviously we all have different opinions and won't change each other's minds.

I am in no way trying to take away from what they did do for that little girl. I'm sure that their fast action and knowledge is why that little girl is alive right now. However, I see no reason for them to have video taped any part of what went on there, and it does make me wonder why anyone would so such a thing.

I do not understand this either, but I honestly think that many people would have done the same thing. I have no clue what these young men were thinking at the time, but many people have the mind-set that by capturing these type situations on video they are possibly providing helpful documentation. As intrusive as it may be, capturing moments on video is becoming the norm - especially for younger generations - they carry the ability to do so in their pockets 24/7.
