I've been researching Tokyo Disney as we are going to Japan in November and was looking for discounts. While doing my search I discovered "Duffy the disney bear". Apparently he his sold exclusively at Tokyo Disney Sea and is what everyone gets and carries around the park. There is even a wait to get into the store to buy him. You can see him here: http://supermerlion.com/duffy-the-disney-bear/

I'm sure my DD would want the Girl version and my son the regular but they are at least 3200 yen each ($36.36). I've since found this on the Disney store site: http://www.disneystore.com/plush-di...P=EMC-eml&att=20100813_DSI_Parks&RRID=9308060

The fur is slightly different but pretty much the same bear. Should I buy the ones from the Disney store and take them with us? (my DH says no. He doesn't want to carry them in our luggage for space and 2 what if the kids don't want them) My thought is if we get there and everyone is carrying them around the parks....that's when they'll want them. Or do I just suck up the fact that the bears are twice as much and buy the bears there. They do have the "Tokyo Disney Sea labels". I checked on Ebay and the ones bought at the park are crazy expensive so that $36 seems like a bargain. WWYD?

I would wait and purchase the Tokyo ones. Hey if the kids don't like them after you get home you can sell them on Ebay. To me the ones from the Disney store are quite different and since you can only get the others in Tokyo that is a true souvie.

Yep, I agree. To me the one at the DS is more like a knock-off of the real one in Tokyo.

I would buy them in Tokyo! And I would probably buy an extra to sell on ebay! Tags on! Then you could recoup the cost of the ones for your kids

Have a great time! When are you going?? doh just saw you said November.

Thanks. I didn't think of buying extras to put on Ebay. You can't even find the "girl" version on Ebay and someone is selling the set of 2 for $240. Yikes!

I do like the look of the Tokyo ones better but I didn't know if I was must being silly.

How old are your children? Will they have their own money to spend? I personally like the Tokyo one but if you have issue spending that much on them then aybe you shouldn't. If the kids have their own money, if they choose tehy want them then you can decide as a family and let them pitch in. Maybe the won't even want them?? They sure are cute!

I don't know what it is but those people in Tokyo seem to really love the disney Bears.
Years ago I started collecting the ones they sold at WDW. I bought them at the outlets for about $15 each, some were as cheap at $8. I had the valentine red one, the blue Easter one, a few different brown shades, a grey, white, green, and pink.
when I got sick money was tight so I put them on ebay. I got over $200 each for them which really helped alot when I had no income and bills to pay.
I wish now I had bought more, there were more colors but I stopped buying them because I had no room and they just took up space.

I would do this too.

Cute is in the eye of the beholder. They are really soft. My son was buried with his. It was his favorite.

Have a really good time! What wonderful memories you will make!

:hug:Indiana Rose Lee I am so sorry for your loss.

I do plan on getting the ones in Japan. I just realized the price was more than I remembered so closer to $45. I normally don't buy things to put on Ebay but in this case....I think it will offset the cost. Thanks for the idea.

Well, I guess that explains why a buyer from Japan paid over $400 for a white one I had listed on Ebay.

I had bought it in 2004 at one of the outlets for about $10.

I think the Duffy is an import from Japan that should have stayed there.Disney has so many great characters that they do not showcase often enough, IMHO, and adding a stuffed bear character is just not my idea of fun.

I would have much preferred them to have continued to upgrade the Pal Mickey, with his clothes and other add-ons, then to add a silly, wanna-be Build-a-Bear. That being said, I will probably take my wife to one of the shops that sells the cuddly guy and see if she wants one. :D

:santa:

When we were there 2-3 years ago Duffy was BIG in TDL but not all encompassing. I doubt your kids would want them more than any other toy there :lmao: The one that threw me for a loop was how popular Stitch was. Stitch ears are almost as prominent as Mickey ears there :) Especially during the winter time as they make fuzzy hats out of them.

I've only been twice, and like I said it's been 2-3 years ago but if there's any thing I can help shed light on please feel free to pm me. It's an awesome park to visit, and DisneySea is soooooo beautiful! I hope you have a lot of fun :)

Oh be aware budget wise, that the food is MUCH smaller than the American counterparts. I wasn't prepared for not being able to easily split a meal when budgeting as at that age we could just usually get an adult meal and let the kids eat off our plates. Also, the souvenirs sting a bit more for cost (as you learned with Duffy!)

Those bears are so cute! I would definitely wait and buy one in Tokyo! I want one now! :rotfl:
