Hi, new to posting on the boards, have had a couple of posts and great responses, but as usual always more questions for a newbie. I know you pay dues on the points you have and the amount per point is based on your home resort. When are the dues due? Do they have to be paid before you use the points or do they have to be paid at the start of your use year? Can you pay them on a monthly basis (possibly bank draf) or do you have to pay the whole thing at once? What about buying a resale. I have read on the boards that you might have to pay dues on points that have already been used (borrowed points)? Any and all information would be greatly appreciated.

Dues are payable in Jan each year- but DVC will set up a draft to allow a monthly payment.

As for resale dues payment, that component of the sale is also negotiable. DVC will prorate dues from when you purchase. Resales would have to be negotiated to achieve the same effect.

Good Luck!

A question for clarification. If for instance I'm looking at a resale with an October use year, the dues for 2001 would have already been paid and I will owe the full amount of yearly dues on January 1, 2002 for the October 2002 use year, is this correct? If you pay monthly are you paying a year in advance, ie, your monthly payment for January 2002 is actully being applied to 2003 dues, or do you pay monthly through the use year?

Dues payment has nothing to do with use year. Dues are payable for the calendar year. DVC does prorate the dues in the year you purchase and then dues will due again in January.

Terms of a resale are all negotiable. Many will ask for the current year's dues to be repaid to the seller- regardless when the purchase occurs or what is the use year.

Do the math carefully with the resale- as, if there are borrowed points, you will still pay the dues on those points in Jan.- even though you'll never get to use the points.

Good luck!

Thanks, just needed the clarification so like you said I can "do the math" to make sure it makes sense. If there are only a portion of the points available for the current year does it make sense that the seller may want to be reimbursed for those points remaining?
