Dueling Dragons will be closing after summer?

I was reading in the 2009 Universal Orlando guide that Dueling Dragons will be closing to retheme it for Harry Potter. Since HP is supposed to open in 2010, that means it could be closed for our trip in December.
Does anyone have any idea when Dueling Dragons will close for it's HP makeover? :confused3
It can be assumed that the ride will close after the summer tourist season (so sometime in late August/Early September) unless the ride were to be used in Halloween Horror Nights (doubtful).
It will be open in December???:worship:

That's been the rumor but nothing official has been released by Universal yet.

Nooooo, they can't do that! They at least have to wait until after my family and I go down for our first Universal trip Labor Day weekend. :p

we'll also be there early sept. praying that duelling dragons will be open -i love that ride!

The retheming of the coaster for Harry Potter is true, but the time table is unclear and/or unoffical. The latest word during the official annoucement made by NBC Unviversal states that certain current attractions were supposed to be taken offline for a certain period of time and rethemed to coincide with "Harry". The retheming of attractions are done in phases, due to the fact that May 2010 is the tentative date for opening date of Phase 1. Phase 2 is due for opening in Spring 2011.

where did you read that it is opening in phases--is there a link you can post so i can read it:confused3 this is very disappointing to hear that it won't be complete until 2011 now:mad: plus to me to open in phases seems less impressive i want to feel the whole experience at one time and to have part blocked by walls/construction will take away from it

I haven't heard about the rethemeing in phases either...of course that doesn't mean much. :rolleyes1

I hadn't heard of it being completed in phases but I would believe it as I had heard of areas of the park that were to be used for Potter that don't appear to have construction being done right now, like the parking area behind Dueling Dragons and the Sinbad show.

As long as the dark ride is ready, I don't really mind if they open in phases. I do hope that the project taking so long means that the detail will be amazing.

I'm guessing they wouldn't shut down a major attraction such as DD during a big travel weekend like Labor Day. I may be wrong, but just guessing that wouldn't be the smartest move during a peak wknd. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you either way.

I think that's a pretty safe bet.
