Hello,
Well as some of you know I have previously won Best Quest (way way back in the first pirates month when Best Quest started). When i'm in the kingdom I get alot of questions about building quests, so I decided to make a guide to help you on your way to making a great quest.

Ideas, Ideas, Ideas
All quests start with an idea. Something you thought of, by yourself. Try to think outside the box, for example my quest I won (I will use my quest as a example alot) was you saw pictures of items and you needed to say the full title of it. This was something new, out of the box, not your average quest. Think hard about this and your quest will be great!

Room
You want to build a room to go with your quest, remember this isn't Best Guest Room but it still should look nice. Make it around your theme of quest, some quests (like mine) don't have a real theme that can be made with items, so theme your room with the current month (I put down pirate rugs and pirate flags). Make sure you have a few tiles open around your quest kiosk so people aren't crowed trying to get to start the quest.

How to keep people in
This is a huge secret I use in almost every one of my quests. This secret will make your room stay higher on the list. It is keep people in your room as long as possible, my quest took place all in my room. I suggest you don't have your first task be "Go to main street" sure this may be nessecary, but your room population is going down. So have them sit down and answer a few trivia questions. (Make sure you have 15 chairs @_@)

Be a good host
Yes you spent alot of time on your quest but people don't like to think, so give out some answers. The quest will still be just as fun, and your guests will be happier.

Tasks
  • Don't ask for impossible game scores, you may be able to score 7000 in fireworks, I certainly can't @_@
  • Don't ask to gain new friend, people get annoyed by that.
  • Don't hide that fourth-leaf clover behind the Frontierland Dock Ticket Office. (Or for that matter don't hide anything in a impossible to find spot)

Your way to building a great quest
Now all you have to do is host your room as much as you can. (Good prizes never hurt as well) Don't get down if you don't win Best Quest, not all great quests get discovered. Remember, just have fun with your quest!

If you have any questions about quests or quest making please post or PM me and they will be answered.

(Please post if I have a typo, I have alot of those @_@)

Amazing guide!! I was just building a quest, and I really like the idea about keeping people in the room!

Thanks, Dude! this is great info. I'm not yet ready to build a quest, but this has at least given me some idea about necessary elements. :thumbsup2

I would like to add only one thing: Build your quest to have fun with it, don't build it with the notion you'll win a Best Quest award, because your chances of winning that are small.
I've built quite a few quests that players said were fun and the prizes were pretty good, too, yet I've never won a BQR award. That never stops me from building these quests, as I'm always complimented on my quests and prizes. The same holds true for games and rooms. Build what YOU like, not what you think the hosts will like. This way you're never disappointed and the players can just have a great time right along with you.
BTW, your tip about having players stay in the main quest room as long as possible is a great tip, just make sure there isn't any problem with other players not having access to that clover or gem or skull or golden Mickey....
Thanks for the tips!

May I add?

If you are making people sit - make sure there are plenty of places to do so. Nothing is worse than people yelling at people to move and the only people who can't see are the people sitting because they are answering questions. ;)

Yes, I realized I did make this guide more about winning BQA more than building quests for fun, I will change that. And about players not accessing the item, my tip was geared more toward sitting down and answer some trivia, I can see some problems with the skull/gem/golden mickey/skull. I am editing the guide know more towards actaully make quests, thanks :)

Actaully I thought about this, thanks for reminding me, added to the guide.

Thanks for your comments :)

I do have a question - about the author's quest points.

My first quest was visited by A LOT of people and was a for or five star the whole time - yet I still have a zero quest rating

I was told it had to do with the value of the items you give - but my minion has given me over 40,000 in credits and she still has a zero as a quest rating...

So - do you know?

LOL

I don't know the exact methods of Author Quest Points. But it doesn't have to do with a single quest. I would assume the more quests you host, the more people who play all your quests, and the more they like it they more points you have. Now, looking at the top authors I have played many of their quests. Ranch for example has about 10 running at a time. I suggest you just keep running quests, that should raise it. I have 4169 points, which is very bad, because most of the quests I make never get released. I don't see how you could have 0 points if you have ran a quest, just keep trying I guess.
