Bit of an odd query here, but does anyone have any info on the above airports?

The reason I'm asking is for my friend's Xmas pressie, well, she's never flown before and is desperate to, so we are treating her, her DH and DS (who has also not flown) to a flight on Ryan Air to one of the above. Just a return flight, but if there's a few hours to spare, what can we do - in other words, is there anything around there (don't want to literally bung them on the plane and come straight back again). If nothing in the airport, is there anything within a bus/short taxi ride available?

Any views/info most appreciated as I'd like to book them ASAP.

Thanks guys:D

PS - it's a surprise, so don't tell them;) ;)

You don't say which end you want to do something. If it is the Francfurt Hahn end, then there is very little to do. There is a coffee shop, paper shop and a small gift shop. It is a really basic airport. Other than that it is miles from a town and you would have to hire a car. We used it this summer to visit friends and for the price of the flights and the car hire was a great cheap holiday for a family of 5.

Hope this is of help.

I went to Dublin for a weekend in June. The airport is fairly small but it was only about a 20 minute taxi ride into the city centre. (I'm not sure if the fair was £20 or 20 euro but split 4 ways I remember it seemed quite a bargain).

There are a lot of things to see catherdrals, book of Kells (fantastic), shopping, bars and restaurants (very smokey), open top bus tour (very informative), Guiness story (pretentious), Jamesons distillery (very good) etc. etc.
Any of the above would fill a few hours.

I flew Ryanair to Dublin the week before last. Both ways the flights were scheduled to be 55 minutes, but were actually only 35 - a bonus for me, but maybe not for your friend.

It's a nice airport with quite a few shops. It had a 'new' feel to it - maybe it's been recently refurbished.

We got a coach into Dublin (they depart the airport every 15 minutes and the same coming back). It took us a good half hour to get into the City - there's construction work everywhere for the Luas (the tram system).

A good way of getting a quick overview of what's there is to buy a ticket for one of the open top bus tours. Your ticket allows you to jump on and off all day and your driver gives a running commentary. The full circuit takes a good hour though, maybe longer - my brain was a bit addled from the jet lag having only returned from Orlando 2 days previously!

The Guinness factory boasts a panoramic view of the City from the 7th floor bar. **Hic**

:D Thanks for the comments, everyone. I suspected Frankfurt Hahn might be a bit of a deadend, but thought it might be a bit more adventurous for my friend!

However, Dublin we shall try for.

Deb - Guinness tour:eek: No thanks - I spent my first 24 years growing up in West London and worked at the Park Royal Guinness factory for three and a half years. I swear the views from those brewhouses were like something from Quatermass (sp?) and the smell was just as bad:p We got a free pint of Guinness each lunchtime, or half a pint of lager if you didn't like the black stuff (sorry, hate it;) ).

Thanks again
