dual check in dates

Actually, we have been able to get into the second one before we left the first one. We got the text that our room was ready for the 2nd while still at the first. So my DS and his wife headed over early and were able to get in while the rest of us slept in and stayed at the old resort for the day. Now, my DS was listed as a guest in both, not lead, so don't know if that made a difference. But for awhile that day, some of us were in the first room while they enjoyed the second

Maybe things have changed, a few months ago we couldn't unlock the door to our new resort/room because our old resort hadn't closed out our account yet.

In Feb I was simply switching rooms at BWV. I had one night in a pool/garden view and then was switching to a boardwalk view. I was attending a conference at Swolphin and so went down and checked out of old room and into the new one all before 8am. I received a notification about 12:30 or 1PM that my new rooms was ready. It took 3 trips to the front desk to get my MB to work on the new room and not the old one.

Yes, we were able to. It could be because we weren't technically checking out from the old until the day after we checked into the new one so that could be why. I think we left the old one around 2:00 to 3:00 pm to head to the parks and then went to the new one after that. When we left, I did tell the front desk that we were going a day early so that they could mark it that way. It was worth the extra points since it ensured we would not be homeless during the switch day and I hope that the person checking in the next day got in early since we had left early!

You absolutely can do what you're asking, altho you do need to be a bit careful about how you do it...I did pretty much exactly the same thing this past March...My DS and his fiancee decided at the last minute (as in 2 days prior to arrival) to join me at WDW and of course they wanted their own space...best I could do was a night here, 2 nights there, a fourth night elsewhere, and so on. One of those nights was a 1-BR at VGF. Now I LOVE LOVE LOVE VGF and rarely do I get to stay there. (I had 10 nights in an OKW studio, which I also loved mind you, but a one-BR at VGF it wasn't!)...Anyway, there was no way my mother's love would stretch far enough to give them the VGF one-BR that night...I told them they could stay in my OKW studio and I'd take the 1-BR at VGF!

I did tell the front desk at VGF what I was doing...I needed to be sure my OKW room didn't "disappear" (and that my magic bands (I brought several with me to "color coordinate") would still work...I gave 2 of my OKW magic bands to my DS and his fiancee and I had one at VGF...it took the front desk at VGF a few minutes to figure it all out--but they did and it all worked perfectly. And I had a lovely one-night (after our dinner together) and morning (they don't get up til noon or thereabouts unless they have to) to myself in all that gorgeous space at VGF...definitely a treat! And proof that it can be done. (They did try to tell me that the computer would get confused about having one name in two rooms...I decided not to argue with them about the probability that Disney World quite frequently has multiple "Bob Smith's" or "Mary Jones's" visiting at the same time! I just smiled and said I understood but could they make it work. And they did...

I'm still a bit puzzled about adding the reservation to my MDE together with the other reservation. Might still keep the AKV reservation seperate from the rest, just to try and not mess up things.

Any suggestions to the explanation to give to the CM who will ask why I don't want to use my MB for the AKV room and wanting a keycard in stead?

You can have both rooms. DVC will require you to get a guest certificate for the second room if they realize it. This can be done no charge if there's someone else on your RCI membership that is going, otherwise it's the usual fee. For different dates they likely won't realize it and you'd be fine if they don't. We've done this several times.

I'd just be frank and tell them you have another room but are staying at AKV for a couple of nights because you wanted to try the resort and that you want the keycard to keep it simple with the MB's.

It sounds like others have had luck with making it work so maybe I'm being too pessimistic but my experiences have been quite real and I have simply been trying to move entirely from one room to another and not have a MB work on two rooms at one time.

I assumed they were looking at a second RCI reservation but the same would apply if both rooms were in one person's name. Easier to change a non RCI reservation though than if both are through RCI.
