DU won't meet other quote!?

Hi everyone. I originally arranged for a cat 9 room through DU. I've paid my deposit, but now I've decided to move up to cat 8 so we could be on deck 5 near the oceaneers lab. However, I checked with All Seasons and buycruises.com (who we used to go to Alaska and they were great) and both came in $150 less than DU. I have seen posts by the DU people that said to make sure and give DU a chance to meet the other quotes and I did and the response was that they don't do that because it cuts into the agent's commissions. So, my question is this - what are the services that make them so much better than everyone else? That $150 could be applied at the spa! Buycruises also checks prices every week to see if there has been a reduction. Help! And if I do transfer to another agency, how does it work transferring my deposit?

Can you cancel with DU and then rebook with one of the other TA's? That may be the easiest way to do it.

Maybe somebody else can provide you more info.

I think that some agencies book rooms in advance for certain dates, locking in lower rates. They can then be resold at those rates. However, if the agency has not done this, they have to quote you the current rate and therefore would not be able to meet the quote.
Don't forget to factor in the rebate from DU.

I would also make sure that the new quote you have includes everything that the DU quote does. I also booked with DU and then after reading these boards tried another TA. (I can't remember which one) The new quote was a few hundred dollars cheaper than DU so I started doing some checking between the two prices. I found out that the new quote did not include travel insurance and DU's quote did. After including the travel insurance it was only a difference of a couple dollars. So, I decided to stay with DU.

Barb is right ..
Especially with DCL, it can make a big $ difference to reserve blocks of staterooms as soon as the sailings are available. The prices don't go down as time approaches, but rather they increase as the ship fills. If someone has a block of staterooms that were reserved as soon as the sailing opened, those will be the lowest prices available for that week. A few months later, those prices can look really good. Unless someone can make up the $$ by rebating part of the commission, it is difficult to beat those prices, if price is the only factor....

Well, it seems that I did not ask for travel insurance or anything, so the only difference is for the actual room. However, you are right, after the rebate the only difference is $52. While I'd prefer to have someone I could actually reach by phone, I suppose it's really not worth the trouble of switching at this point. Thanks

That is the only drawback of using DU....when I booked with Disney I could call them anytime with requests questions etc...with DU its email (though they do get back to you very quickly) but I still like actually talking to people....I did book through DU anyway though
