Two of my daughters want to do this. I know the cost is $45 that you get to spend later. Has anyone done this or know more about it then the GCH blurb.

I don't know if it's different at DTD, but at the one by me you spend $50 and get a "free" makeover.

I think that the GCH one is pretty early in the morning.

With Sephora, you can book a makeover at any time, and I believe it's free. So if they don't want to do the makeover early early (I know you've said your family gets up early, but sometimes there's a difference in being up and being up and about, LOL) they could just do it normally.

DD23 & I did it a few years ago. It was only $35 when we did it. They give you a gift certificate for the amount of the session. They limit the group to ten people so you get a lot of one on one attention. We knew we wanted to buy some make up there anyway, so the session was free. It was fun and informative. It is first thing in the morning. And it was cool to be able to "shop" with no one else in the store. Anyway, if the girls know they want to buy merchandise at Sephora, have them do it!:thumbsup2

They always stop in and buy a few things, they said they may want to try it this year so I figured I would ask.

I'm not sure if the price differs at various Sephora stores, but it is $50 at my local store and per their email advertisement.

They still do FREE makeup applications if you're curious about trying several products. Here's the main difference between the $50 and the free sessions (at least in my experience):

$50 Session - Usually includes a complete makeover, i.e. foundation, blush, lips, eyes, etc. The sales person will usually teach you how to apply the products, which brushes to use and why, what types of colors work best on you, etc.

Free Session - They'll usually apply one or two specific products, i.e. eyeliner and mascara. You'll get some product specific tips, and the salesperson might offer some suggestions on which other eyeliners might work for you. You don't need to make an appointment, and it's on a first come, first serve basis.

My guess is that Sephora implemented this $50 makeover because a lot of people were coming in to the store, getting their makeup done for prom, dinner, etc. and then not purchasing things. Clinique and MAC instituted a similar policy many, many years ago.

Most importantly, keep in mind that most of the Sephora sales people are SALES PEOPLE and not makeup artists.

I have a hunch that most of the Sephora staff are, by now, *truly* artists at what they do. There is nothing like a lot of experience in the field to create an artist. I have worked in the cosmetics industry since 1986 and at first at our makeup studio we used to give totally free makeovers, no strings attached, we just thought that if they tried the product they would like it. It worked great for most clients, but some clients did purposefully take advantage of it for prom, dates, Weddings, etc. We then started charging $25 for a professional makeup application where we applied it for them, no strings, no pressure to purchase, OR they could receive a more time consuming, (more explanation, detail, etc.) free makeup lesson (we apply one side, taught them how do to the other side) and the cost was simply whatever they chose to purchase. Eventually it got to the point where as I went along the list during the makeup lesson, that clients nodded their heads in approval so that at the end of the makeup lesson I could simply state, 'What would you like to take home with you today?' They more often than not would buy the entire line. $300 - $400 or sometimes more. (We also took them through a cleansing/toning/moisturizing/special care routine.) I also found that many of the $25 makeup applications clients also wished to make purchases, and they realized that the $25 cost was specifically for the service of having their makeup professionally applied to BOTH sides of their face evenly, but still wanted to purchase some of the products. I would always invite them back in for a more detailed makeup lesson, to learn how to use the products that they had purchased.
Blackjackdelta, I think your daughters will LOVE their experience!! IF you do not want to spend any more money than the minimum expected, simply tell the beauty experts there that you love the look they gave your girls, and want to spend the minimum now, but that you may think about purchasing more later, as your girls have a chance to wear it/feel it/see how well it wears in the heat/humidity, see if there are any allergies, etc. (and let them know they will get the sale, that you will tell them to type the sale in under their own beauty expert's name, in case they do work on commission.) I wouldn't think that they will be pushy but I just wanted you to be aware that there are some super beauty experts out there who simply enjoy helping others to feel more confident about themselves, and then there are some who do try to simply go in for the sale. I really do doubt that they will do that at that location.... I think they will be awesome! Please let us know how it works out, whatever you do. Have fun!!

The one in DTD has special sessions for guests of the Disney hotels. It's before store hours.
