clean and safe - definitely. although like BW LBV a little better.

you can walk to DTD

mousesaver rate on this was $82. seems to be the best rate on those from DTD area. with small children i really dont want to chance a cheaper place without a bunch of good reviews and i really havent found a good one yet. i was hoping for around $50 but this has been the best rate for one night at a place i feel like i can trust. i know its a Disney affiliated hotel and seems to have a good reputation. if anyone has a cheaper place let me know.
thanks for the help.

Keep an eye out on BookIt.com. I got a room (traditional) for our first night in Dec from them in Feb. for Royal Plaza .
It was $69. ($80. with tax).

We did one night here the night before thanksgiving last year and it was really nice. We got there about 7 pm after driving all day, and everyone was really nice. We walked to DTD for dinner and came back and crashed. We haven't gotten a good deal here yet for Thanksgiving this year so right now we are booked at the Regal Sun which is just down the strip. Got it for $85 for a disney view. I couldn't find the Royal Plaza for under $144 for our dates.

princess,
mousesaver rate from their site is 82 before tax. how does regal sun look

dogodisney,
tried bookit, it said 93 for the date we wanted (12-18)
thanks,

The Royal Plaza is very nice - we have stayed there many times over the years. It was just renovated a few yrs back. You are within walking distance of DTD, the Crossroads shopping area, and I am sure you'll find it more than comfortable for 1 night. Do watch different boards as they often great room specials and sometimes with free breakfasts included (yes, for adults too, not just kids).

That's when we are staying there!

BookIt has specials all the time, so keep checking back. They sometimes have deals that willl only last for a couple of days.

I think this is where we are going to stay for one night before we check into disney in Jan

I tried it and it gave my $127 for our dates with the mousesaver rate applied. The $89 promotinal rate doesn't cover the week of thanksgiving. Thanks for trying though!
From what I am reading I think it is going to be comprable. it's about 2 blocks closer to DTD.

The Royal Plaza is an extremely nice hotel. We always stay here the night we get to Disney, then go check into the Poly or Grand Floridian the next morning. The rooms are very clean and spacious. We had a great view of Downtown Disney! You can also take a short walk to Downtown Disney. I would highly recommend staying here!

We stayed April 2008 the night before our cruise and it is very nice - only Hotel other than Disney Hotels I have stayed at while in Florida. It was very clean and the help was very nice. Didn't try the restaurants. Ended up taking the bus to DTD then the hotel bus to POP to have dinner - it was late that night when we were able to eat after flying all afternoon. I highly recommend it for a couple of nights - not sure if I would stay the week or not - I would rather be on site for my Disney Trips though we are trying the Nick hotel for 2 nights after our 4/3 promotion stay at POR.

Yahoo! Just got an email and made my reservation for 1st weekend in July - Premier Tower Room $79/night!

Definitely not my favorite place to stay when at WDW, but it is very clean, safe and cozy. After doing a bunch of research online I was able to get a room for just under $60 for late 2006. (True, it was a 2006, but you get the idea.)

If I were to recommend a cheap hotel to friends going to WDW and I had the option of either choosing the Royal Plaza or one of the All-Star resorts, I'd recommend Royal Plaza if they're looking for a quiet place......but All-Stars if they're taking kids and don't mind some of the extra noise.

Stayed there for 2 nights, jst 2 weeks ago, we weren't in the tower, but had a very large room, with a balcony overlookng the pool, nice and clean.

We stayed there for a week a few years back and thought it was very nice. I would definitely stay there again.

We stayed here the week of thanksgiving 2008. We were unable to get on property at a good rate. We did however through a Mousesavers hot deal get a deluxe tower room with breakfast buffet included for all in room for $80 a night. When I tried to book it online it would not let me make the ressie for thansgiving and beyond although we checked in on Saturday before. I called the Hotel directly and talked to the nicest women who was able to do carry the same rate for the whole stay--we booked 3 rooms. We had a very nice time, the buffet was nice however I would have had a difficult time paying full price for it. The rooms are large and we have one child so we got a King room with a pull out sofa. It was really nice to have a big bed. Housekeeping did a very nice job and our room was very clean. We did eat in the bar once. The prices for stuff are high, but that is true lots of places. No fridge in the room but we just kept a cooler. It was great to go to DTD and get EOS and bring it back to the room too. You can walk it, busy road to cross but doable. The buses worked fine for us, slow to DTD of all places. Hope you have a nice trip. We were pleased especially for the price.

Were you able to go out onto the balcony????

No you can't go out on the balcony, some business about a jumper several years back. The door only opens enough for for Kate Moss to slip out there. But you can squeeze your regular sized arm out there to dry bathing suits.

We stayed there for two nights december 19-21 2008 with the mousesavers rate before checking in to the AKV.

This was our first time staying off property and we were hesitant but relied on the mousesavers review. We requested a first floor non-tower room with two queen beds and a sleeper sofa. It has a patio and sliding doors with pool access.

It was very convenient to the DTD area and the side parking lot. The room was clean and comfortable. I'd rate it around 3/4 a star lower than the Pop - it's older - less bright - and just not Disney. We did not have the free breakfast and I would pass on this anyway. It's a zoo and not well managed or serviced. There's an IHop less than 1/2 a mile away.

The mousesavers rate was great for what we were looking for that time of year.

I have pictures but would need to learn how to post them here before sending.

Here we go:
