Hello all,

Very long time no post.

The ticker has been counting down and in under 200 days I'll be back home - cannot wait!

After lots of discussion this year has been decided as a Disney only holiday - I just cant justify the extra cost of going to Universal etc AND hiring a car as well. This got me thinking of how we might get off property for an afternoon if we (and by we I mean I) fancied a trip to the shops - not planning on going far, just to the Lake Buena Vista Factory Stores. Now I'm happy to get a cab but had stumbled across somewhere saying you could get a shuttle from one of the DTD resort hotels out to the mall...has anyone ever done this? As we're not staying in one of the DTD hotels I'm unsure if this is a massive no-no but if anyone has any experiences they could share that would be great. If the general thought is that it shouldn't be done if your not staying there then we'll definitely get a taxi.

Thanks!

x

Do you mean this?
Never used it myself. Personally I think the Prime Outlets are better.

Hi, can't help you really, we had the same thought in 2011, but ended up wasting a good few hours trying to find the links bus stop (never did find it:rolleyes1) for this years trip we have decided to get a taxi there and then try and get the bus back to DTD, hopefully the bus stop on I.D will be easier to find :D

cal :)

The Lynx bus stops are at DTD and at the TTC. They look like this. But, to get to the Prime Outlets on Vineland (which IMO are the best of the lot), you'd need to take the 50 to Sea World, then cross the road and change to the 8 to the Outlet Malls. It'll take ~40 minutes, BUT it's only $2. Hint: don't do this on a Sunday...buses are a LOT less frequent on a Sunday...

Cal - the bus stops on I Drive are very easy to find. Where would you like to go from/to?

Hi Kath, we were going to get a taxi from POFQ to universal then bus from universal to I.D then I.D back to DTD, do you know if the buses stop at certain times in the evenings
cal :)

Hi Cal, I've tried to include Google Streetview photos to help here...

Bus from Universal to I-Drive is the 37 every half an hour (except Sundays, when it's hourly) at 00 and 30 past the hour. Be sure to get off a I Drive because this doesn't run the whole length of I-Drive. Press the button when you near the building with the steel globe on top and hop off (loads of others will be doing the same). Then you can catch the 8 or 42 up and down I-Drive as much as you wish from any stop.

Alternatively, walk to I-Drive from Universal - it takes around 10 minutes and you join I Drive at Wet n Wild. It's all one road so nothing complicated. Personally we tend to do this unless we happen to leave right around the time that the 37 is leaving, as, by the time the 37 has gone round the block, it's pretty much as quick. Head out of Universal down the escalators as if you were going to take a taxi or the bus. You come out in the taxi/bus rank. Just head for this path and keep walking! You will need to cross a few roads but they all have traffic lights. You'll walk past the Universal sign, some lakes, and (on a well-shielded footpath!) over the I-4. Remember that building with the steel globe on top? That's where you're heading! When you arrive at I-Drive, there's a Walgreens on your right and Wet n Wild straight in front of you. The bus stop to go SOUTH on I-Drive is right outside Walgreens (cross the road to go North, just outside Wet n Wild's entrance). They are pink paw print signs. Some have benches - this one doesn't, but it does have shade from the trees.

To get back to DTD you'll need to catch the SOUTH 8 from I-Drive to Sea World, then transfer to the 50. The last bus from Sea World is at 11pm. The 8 runs much later. Alternatively just get off the 8 at Sea World and head across the Sea World parking lot to the entrance; there are always plenty of cabs here and it's much cheaper than a cab from further up I-Drive.

Where do you plan to go on I-Drive?

Again, I recommend not doing this on a Sunday. The buses are less frequent on a Sunday.
