I know this has been reported and discussed, I was just wondering if anyone had a recent status report on this issue? I'm wondering if there has been any communication to or from DVC regarding the transportation fee portion of our dues and how this can be protected from being used to subsidise DTD transportation...

Just curious.

I don't know - but I can't see it changing anytime soon...most of the bus drivers we had in November and again in January were telling people they could get to DTD from Saratoga and should take his bus.

I guess if they have a multi day ticket to a theme park or are a WDW resort guest they can take any bus they want. It is a real kick in the pants if a SSR owner has to catch the next bus because it is full with hoppers to DTD. It is legal though.

Problem isn't going to change I'm afraid. Lucky for us we don't stay at SSR or normally use WDW transportation.

complaint to the transportation controller.

SSR is not a good selection for theme park guest.

the resort closest to their theme park is an excellent choice.

of course the theme park transportation is included with the tickets - not the resort buses.

I was there at Thanksgiving and the SSR buses weren't overrun with people wanting to go to DTD. I think the one night coming back from MK, there were 4. Everyone in line got on the bus and everyone had a seat. This was Thanksgiving night itself.

I'm a bit more concerned about the openess of the walkways to get into SSR then I am about people riding the buses.

We need to pass by security and show Card to drive in but anyone can just walk right off a main street.

ITA. Ride the bus all you want but gate the walkways for security.

My concern is the people who take the bus to SSR and then have no idea how to get to DTD from there.

Well if so then expect to be charged for EVERY time a DVC member takes a bus to another resort for dinner..

I am also not really concerned about gating the walkways. That's NOT going to really give you any security. (Ask my boyfriend who lives in a gated community... guess who was robbed???)

We stayed in the Congress Park section, and pretty much the handful of people that were on their way to DTD had no clue. DH gave directions a couple of times. Driver would tell the passengers to get off at CP and "find the path".

We noticed this alot during our trip in early december. I thought it odd that over half of the crowded bus would wait til Congress Park to get off and then head for the path to DTD. One night a very large group asked my DH for directions. They admitted they were not staying at SSR or any other Disney resort. Kind of ticked me off since they all had seats on the bus and we were standing.

I don't know the specifics, but it seems logical that the transportation fee imposed upon the dues gives DVC owners the right to use the disney transportation system as a whole. SSR busses are not owned by SSR and they probably will not stop guests who want to use them to travel to DTD as they're just another arm of the whole transportation creature... you can't just chop off an arm.

The Purple Pants man (someone help me with his name!) would probably have the best answer as to what's going on though.

I guess I'm just worried that SSR owners will end up paying for the cost of ALL SSR busses instead of just the proportion attributable to SSR guests. If it becomes a well used transportation hub for DTD, I would think this could create quite a bit more bus expenses.

One simple solutions seems to be having paid parking at DTD (use retail validations for cutomers). This seems like it would reduce the motivation to park and ride from DTD to the parks via SSR. Either that or simply provide better bus access to parks from DTD.

At the BWV and the BCV we have alot of guests using the boat transportation and parking in our lots to visit the area. it costs more in outr dues to maintain this but I don't think an SSR Bus is any different. Any WDW guest has the right to use all transportation available. How they get from point A to point B is their choice.

Guests not staying at SSR who may use their transportation just the way they can use transportation from any of the other Walt Disney World Resort Hotels, so just because SSR is a DVC Resort does not make them exempted from this.

If Park tickets grant the right to use all of WDW transportation, then that's where the expenses should come from I would think. Otherwise, the DVC owners, or Hotel cash guests are basically subsidizing the transportation that everyone gets to use which is I guess the way it currently works.

DTD is an "park"-sort of. Imagine if MGM or Epcot did not have adaquete transportation so a large chunck of guests were in the habit of coming to and from the park via the BW/YC/BC busses. Although, on a smaller scale, that is what I fear at SSR and am hoping the Disney has a plan to prevent.

In all my years of travelling to WDW (not as many times as a lot of you, though) I have come across quite a few people that park at DTD for free to visit the theme parks. I honestly don't see how this saves them that much money. They stay at a hotel off of Disney property and drive their car to DTD; then they take a bus to another hotel and then ANOTHER bus to get to the theme park they're going to for that day. What a total waste of time!!!

Unless I'm mistaken, once you pay to park your car at one theme park for the day you don't have to pay again even if you drive to another theme park in the same day. I remember two years ago all of the cars parked at DTD Marketplace and there wasn't that many people there shopping/eating at 10:00 a.m. Later on that day we walked over to look at SSR (the DVC we own at and haven't been able to stay at--long story) and saw (or rather heard) why there were so many cars at DTD...park for free at DTD and ride the SSR buses for free to the parks.

Now, I like saving money as much as the next person but TIME is money as well. Why save a few bucks when it's going to take you longer to get somewhere? Do I like paying tolls on a highway? No, but it saves time.

I agree what those people do is a complete waste of time all to save $10.00 for parking. I say if you can afford a vacation to WDW, spending $10.00 to park will not cause you to go bankrupt. A few years ago WDW stopped having buses from DTD to the parks because some offsite guests were parking at DTD to save money on parking. So if they want to waste an hour or more doing this by parking at DTD, taking a bus to a Resort & going to the parks that way, I say let them because it would mean less lines for me when my family & I are at the parks when they open, plus the lines will be longer for these people once they arrived all because they wanted to save $10.00 to park.

It would be nice if Disney had a paid bus from DTD. Show your KTTW and ride for free. If I were staying off site I'd use it because I'd be traveling by myself and my car would already be at DTD. I'd have less of a fight getting out of Disney at closing because the bus would be dropping me off near the exit of the whole resort. Charge $2 per person. On a day to day basis that $10 becomes $70 by the end of a vacation. Right or wrong you can see why people would want to stiff Disney on parking.

You may think it would be nice but I don't see WDW ever doing what you are suggesting they do.
