DTD Lego Store Prices?

Are they comparable to buying Legos at say, Target? Or are they a lot more expensive? My boys are so excited to go to a REAL Lego store, but my bargain-hunter of a 9 year old will not pay a price that's outrageously more than what he will pay at Target. :)

No, I think they are about the same. We mostly buy Star Wars legos and I think the prices are the same.

Yep - about the same.
Once in a while Target puts on a sale, in which case they will be slightly cheaper - but no where near the selection.

There's also a small clearance section at the Lego Store.
And congrats for having trained a child that knows the value of money!

Thanks! I was also hoping the selection was a lot better at DTD. Good to know. My son just bought one of those $100 sets a few days ago. I was hoping he'd save his $$$ for our upcoming trip, but... anyway. He found the set on sale at Toys R Us for $80, plus he got a $10 gift card for spending at least $75. He was quite proud of his deal. And of course it made me feel good when he said, "I learned by watching you, Mom." I recently jumped on the couponing bandwagon and I'm always telling him stuff like, "Look! I got these tuna pouches for 3 cents each!" :)

Sometimes the Lego store has a clearance section. My boys once got $10 sets for $2.50. It is hit and miss what is on clearance.

Also, usually in Jan, retail stores like Target and Toys R Us will have Lego sets on sale. Like buy one get one half off. Or have some big sets on clearance too. We have gotten some large sets that way. But in this economy, you may end up finding good deals before Christmas.

Anyway, I love the Lego store for the large selection. AND, they have pink Legos and sets for girls that the stores don't have.

You can actually find better deals at the Lego store in DTD. I suggest you know exactly how much the set is that you want. I went there a couple of weeks ago thinking they were going to be higher than Target and Toys R'Us. I bought a City set there that was 5 dollars cheaper than I saw it at TRU. It was 14.99 at TRU and at the Lego store it was 9.99. I also bought another set that was a few dollars cheaper.

As it gets close to the trip, just do the rounds and know what the sets he wants cost.

We had NO interest in bringing home a big box that we could have bought at home for the same price, so when we went, DS played, and then got a cup of pick-a-brick. Oh, and a baseplate, as their price on them was actually much better than I've seen online. And with no shipping costs. We all loved the pickabrick thing, and if we bring in the cup+lid and make sure to keep the sticker with the barcode on it, we can get a (tiny) discount on future pick a brick purchases. :)

Don't know if this would apply to you, but through our Costco package, we got some coupons for DTD. One of them was a coupon for the Lego store. I can't remember what it was - maybe $5 off $30 purchase? I didn't find anything for DD, but DH was salivating over a $500 Millenium Falcon... In the end, I think he bought Darth Vader's ship (can't remember the specific name.) We have a Lego store near us - the Lego stores have a much better selection that what I've found at Target, Toys R Us, etc.
