DTD Holiday Inn

How long is it closed for? And I see they call themselves along with others like Royal Plaza by Downtown, an official Disney hotel? I thought those by downtown Disney were separate from Disney, does Disney owns/operate them? Or do they pay Disney to have their hotels there and thats why they are calling themselves "official" WDW hotels?

That hotel has been closed since the season of hurricanes. It still isn't finished.

I noticed this hotel on the Holiday Inn website but know it's been closed for years. I emailed HI and here is the response (I think they should remove it from their site):

The Holiday Inn Lake Buena Vista, FL on 1805 Hotel Plaza Blvd. is unfortunately closed due to extensive hurricane damage. We do not have an estimated date for its reopening.

I would suggest contacting 1-800 Holiday. Our reservationists would be able to provide you information about our other properties in the Disneyworld area. If you have any further questions or concerns, please let me know.

That's sorta funny. Other hotels in that area were damaged and they are back open. They started work on the building but then they stopped and it has been sitting there undone every since.

The DTD hotels are on Disney property. However they are not owned or operated by Disney. Of these hotels, only the Hilton offers EMH. They share shuttle service to the parks, which is different than the buses operated by Disney.

The location is great. Most of the hotels are a short walk to Downtown Disney Marketplace. The official website is here:

We have stayed at Buena Vista Palace, Hilton, Royal Palace and Courtyard (now Holiday Inn). Enjoyed every stay.

I heard that was because they were concentrating on opening the Nickelodeon Hotel??? Is that operated by Hol Inn??
Such a shame, we stayed there when it was the Courtyard by Marriott and it was such a great hotel. :sad1:

I'm staying with my DD21 at the Royal Plaza Hotel which I think is right next to this hotel (pls correct me if I'm wrong)...I was wondering what the construction site looked like..will it be dangerous (secluded and empty)???
I'm trying to google earth the site and I just can't tell....
Anyone???

It just looks like no one is home at the hotel. It isn't messy or anything. I doubt it will be dangerous.

Thanks...I just don't want to be walking back from DTD and feel isolated.

Thanks for the information! I called the 800-Holiday number to check on the current status and they indicated it is closed indefinitely.

Holiday Inn does not own this property (virtually all Holiday Inns, like any other hotel chain, are franchised). The last time I checked it was owned by the same folks who own the Sheraton Safari... don't know if that's still the case.

Whoever owns it just doesn't have the money to complete the overhaul... nobody's working on it right now. Perhaps it's for sale.

Avista, which owns a ton of properties in the area, acquired the Days Inn by I-4/across the street from the Disney Village enterance... they began conversion to a Radisson Hotel... it was suppose to open this past January -- it's still closed.

Sometimes these things happen ;).

This Hotel was the Courtyard by Marriott.(LBV).:thumbsup2
After the hurricane in 03/04(?),it has been closed.:confused3

The only thing that you can see has happened to this Hotel is that the Courtyard by Marriott sign is gone, and the Holiday Inn sign is up.:confused3
This Hotel, as a Holiday Inn, has NEWER been open.

No one is working on it.(As far as you can see anyways).

You will have a GREAT stay at the Royal Plaza.:goodvibes
