Disney and AMC Theatres have announced the arrival of six "dine-in theatres" coming to Downtown Disney at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. Opening May 16th, these theatres will allow customers to watch the newest releases while enjoying dinner and drinks from their seats. The six auditoriums with at-your-seat dining at AMC Downtown Disney 24 will have reserved seating, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, and "an extensive menu including a wide array of entrees such as an enticing selection of quesadillas, burgers, flatbread pizzas, grilled sandwiches, house specialties, as well as appetizers and desserts." In addition, so as to minimize distractions to other patrons, moviegoers will be able to press a call-button that alerts their server. Depending on the day and time, taking in this new experience will cost between $6 and $13, plus the cost of food, which is expected to be between $6.59 - 8.99 for appetizers and $8.59 - 11.99 for entrees.

For those that don't want to eat while watching a movie, a full-service bar and lounge will also open on May 16th. MacGuffins Bar and Lounge will be located inside the AMC Downtown Disney 24 and will offer the full menu of drinks and food choices available to those in a dine-in theatre.

We have a few different theaters like this throughout Chicago. Seating is usually done in a strategic way that a waiter/waitress walking around never gets in your line of sight. As long as they design the theaters appropriately, I think they will be very nice.

Interesting, now instead of just having loud people interrupting the movie, we will have loud drunks interrupting the movie. How is a server going to come and go and take orders without disturbing others.

Here is the menu and more info: http://zannaland.com/disney-amc-24-dine-in-theatre-coming-in-may-menu-details/

I'm guessing you have never been to a dine in theater?
This is one of DF and my favorite things.
At the one near his house they try to take your order before the movie (if you are seated) and most of the time our food is out before the movie starts. You put up a "flag" if you want anything else and they drop off your check about 30 min before the movie ends. They are always quick and talk quietly while the movie is playing. It is not a bar type atmosphere even tho they serve of beer and wine.
This is a great "dinner and a movie" date wrapped in one. Cant wait to check it out in January! :cool1:

No I haven't, do people not talk to the server during the movie, and do the servers not have to walk in front of others to get to the person who pushed the call button.

It won't be anything I personally would be interested in, people talking during a movie is a huge pet peeve of mine.

Here is a photo and it looks to me the server would block the view of others. Glad some enjoy it and its fine as it is only going to be 6 theaters. Actually maybe this will be better, maybe people who do not like to be silent during movies will visit these theaters.

And I am sure some will be able to do this and be respectful of others around them, but at Disney that at times seems to be something that many have trouble doing.

This is so cool! Can't wait o try it out in Aug!!!:cool1:

Have enjoyed the ones near home, would like to try it sometime in WDW as well.

I totally understand your concerns. I like that there will be a new option but it is nice the not every theater will be changed.
The theater I usually go to is not sectioned off like I think the AMC ones will be. I have been to one and they just had a section in the back, kind of a balcony. I was not sitting in that section and there was no interruption at all to me. So it would not be an issue unless you were sitting in that section.
As far as the picture posted that is not what it is like at all, at least not where I go.
Usually the server just drops off the food while trying to duck to stay out of the way of as many people as possible and moves on quickly. No smiles and chit chat like at a restaurant. ;)

This sounds great. We don't have anything like this here. Definatly going to go in July.

I've never been to a dine in movie and I think it sounds awesome!! It looks like are opening just in time for the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie!

I agree, options, is always good. It will be interesting to see this play out.

I know that many DVCers don't read the other forums on this site, such as Resorts, Theme parks and restaurants. The behavior that is discussed on those forums would make many DVCers cringe and I can see this being another area where it works well in other cities and yet has the potential for trouble at Disney World. Some seem to leave all sense of right and wrong at home when they come to Disney.

Can't wait for the reviews.

We have a dinner & movie theatre here at home and go about 3/yr. They usually have the movies that have been out at least a few weeks & are not in as high a demand. Also only seat maybe 80 people total. So although there is usually some light chatter we have always had a great time. Depending on the movie playing we would definitely consider going at Disney as well.

We are going to be there when Cars 2 opens and are hoping that this is one of the options. Sounds like a great way to relax for me. :goodvibes

Now that I can see probably working. It would get people back to the theater to see something that in another week or so will be on DVD.

Both NikkiBell and myself posted information on this thread:

Unlike most movie taverns the because of the prices the crowds seem to be a little more classy. The waiters are very efficient and stay out of the way.

We bought tickets to the Cinema Suites, 21 and up only. And yes the seating can be reserved as soon as you purchase your tickets. Worth every penny in my opinion. And NEW movies not those about to be released to DVD. The older movies are in the smaller theaters.

Good to hear! I always go to the movies when I visit WDW since we don't have a theater where I live. This will definitely be something to try.

Looking forward to it! We've have a Dinner and Show theater here and love it, we go with the kids, thus far in 10 years, no drunken altercations. I also had one while in college with the same success.

I think it's a nice way to get out of the heat and if you love movies as I do, adding lunch or dinner makes the whole experience even better. Of course since it's at Disney I'm sure my wallet will get a worse beating than at home!
