DTD Bus "change" ?

We have never had a problem popping over to DTD(fmaily member claims the only drinkable coffee on property was at Mcdonalds LOL) and getting a bus back to the resort well before 11am.

This really doesn't stop those that still want to park for free at DTD, all they need to do is hop a bus to POFQ!

Yeah, but they have to wait a few hours... Let's say MK opens at 8 and DTD opens at 8. Buses FROM DTD to POFQ, CR, CBR, etc.. don't start until 9 to 10. then if you didn't get CR you have to get another bus to MK. So your "savings" just ate up 2 to 3 hours of your day. :rotfl2:

Yeah, but they have to wait a few hours.
Not really.
Let's say MK opens at 8 and DTD opens at 8.
Except for EMH, MK opens at 9.
Buses FROM DTD to POFQ, CR, CBR, etc.. don't start until 9 to 10.
Buses operating out of the DTD hub arrive at select resorts to pick up for parks much earlier than 9.

If someone knows the bus system, and the locals do, they can make it to the parks from DTD in time for opening. It's done just about every morning. Also, there are better ways to avoid the parking fees, if that's the objective. I've never understood going through all that just to save $14.

Then there are those of us that do it the "hard" way and buy AP's to park at the parks for free LOL.

Busses from DTD to POFQ were running "early". That was the bus they were routing everyone too.

I know last summer I had monster problems getting to DTD. I wait over 40 minutes on a DTD bus to come All-star Resorts and did not show up. I was stariving and go to Planet Hollywood for dinner. The kids and I end eating at food court 3rd time in a row. DTD bus service is aweful. I am easy person to please.

Yesterday at DTD, there was a CM stopping and asking everyone at the Bus Stop where they were going. It seems they are not running busses from DTD back to resorts until later in the morning.

So to get back to AKL he said to take the POFQ bus from DTD, then at POFQ take the Epcot bus, then an Epcot take the AKL bus. (How is that for direct transportation LOL)

So anyone who wants to hop over to DTD for a morning of last minute shopping before you leave, you might want to take a cab back to your resort.

This is the one thing that brought me to tears on my last trip....

Returning a rental car to the Downtown resort area my plan was to pick up a few things at DTD right at opening and then take the WL bus back in lots of time to check out.

I was at the bus stop by 9:45, had a CM ask me which resort I was going to and then after more then 30 minutes finally was told that there was no bus running directly until after 11:00. Along with another couple who were trying to get to the Grand Floridian, we waited another 15 minutes to be told to get on bus number #### (and to NOT forget that number or we were apparently screwed) for POFQ, which would then turn into a MK bus, which would then turn into a WL bus, that would then turn into a GF bus!!!!!!!!!!!!! Are you sensing my anxiety level increasing?

When my daughter and I along with the GF couple finally got on bus number #### I politely told the driver "I guess your getting us to the Wilderness Lodge"...his response "Am I?"

Get to POFQ, the bus fills to standing room only for the MK and immediately a second MK bus pulls in behind and the driver asks people who are standing to please get on the empty bus for safety sakes, a few do but other start giving him lip and refusing to move, he's refusing to move until they do and I lost it. I'm sitting in the very front in view of the driver and I don't know if it was my tears or not that got us moving....not sure if he noticed but I'm certain the lady across the way did and of course my poor daughter did.

When we got to the MK I had already told the GF couple that it made no sense to them to stay on, they should just walk over to the GF so off they got. I had recovered enough to chat a little with the driver (we were by then the ONLY passengers on the bus!) and he said the new system, as far as he, a driver with several years experience in the company, was concerned was ridiculous. He said in the past they had set routes and even if there was no set route for a lower bus traffic resort, on mornings like this if one passenger came to the stop they would switch the bus, rather then having an empty bus sitting at a different stop. It made no sense to him to have someone tour half of Disney World just to get where they wanted to go. He assured me he'd have me there in plenty of time but of course by then it was already after 11:00. Thankfully my mother answered the phone in the room when I called, explained the situation and they didn't have a problem with a late check out.

Normally I take everything on vacation in stride, even though I research the crap out of everything before hand, but this hour and a half blip in my vacation caught me when I was tired, weepy already from having to leave, and put me out of control of the situation. It was thankfully the only dark moment in our trip though my stress and anxiety level followed me through the rest of that day .....

The CM at DTD was ecouraging guests to complain to WDW as it seems the drivers are not thrilled with this system either.

Not to add to your anxiety, but for future reference there is not a walkway from MK to GF. You need to take a boat or monorail. You can walk to Contemporary from MK.

I'm a little slow, not following you.
He's saying that anyone who has a bad experience, or any experience I guess, traveling to and from DTD should document it so as to let us all know what to expect.
Then when the guest experiences such an occurance they won't run to Guest Services expecting compensation for their inconvenience.

DTD had always been like this. People on this board all realize it. I tell everyone I know that is going to WDW about the bus service to DTD and back again. It is not the place to be if you are in a hurry. You truly do need to plan on at least an hour for transportation each way. Shouldn't be this way, but it is.

again, I posted about this when I saw a sign directing people from DTD to take a POR bus to get to parks....WTH???:confused3
I didn't care about extra time, but I know one thing for sure,I NEVER want to stay at that resort! the lines, and full buses just make it NOT worthwhile,IMO. Why are they burdening this already very large hotel area with more people? It appeared to me that there was already too few buses/stops and too many people here......

Now we have the answer. (See the start of this thread). Downtown to Riverside morning service starts before Downtown to other resorts.

Hi,

We were considering taking the bus to DTD from Wilderness Lodge the morning of our last day for breakfast and a little shopping (nothing big as we would have already checked our bags). Would want to get back to WL for lunch by 12:00 noon as we are going on ME at 2:00 pm. Will we have a problem??? Better to make other breakfast plans and just get to DTD sometime during the week?

Thanks.

As long as the resort buses continue to start running around 11am, you should be able to get back to WL around noon.

You're absolutely right....even as I was typing it this morning (in my defense, before my second cup of coffee) something was needling me about what I was typing....it was the monorail route I was suggesting to them.

No further anxiety added!

Which then turns into a DTD bus. That is one of the routes. Simple, right?

The driver probably said that because unless the dispatcher tells the driver what the entire route is, they may not be aware of where they are going after dropping off at MK at that time.

Ok, I think, no, not really, but ok.

Yup, nothing new.
In the AM to DTD, if you're not a bus person, consider a cab.
