DS's HS Marching Band to be in a Movie

On Wed. and Thurs. this past week, our DS's HS marching band did a scene in the upcoming movie, the remake of the Manchurin Canidiate due out next year. The scene was with Meryl Streep as she attends a political rally. The shot the scene at the Jacob Javitz Convention Center in New York. They only neded 25 of the 110 members of the band. My son plays the trumpet. He got paid .. but the pay was donated to a charity. I just hope that scene does not got edited out.

That is pretty cool. How did they pick what band was to be in it, and how did they pick what members they wanted?

The band was picked by the director of the movie. He lives in the area and have seen them at parades locally and in NYC and knew they performed at the Zootopia concert at Giant Stadium for which an article was written about them in the New York Times this past June. For this concert they won a audition over 1500 other bands and the audition was done by the producers of the movie Drumline. They appeared on Fox's Good Day NewYork show in October. They also been contacted by the Today show to appear in near future. They are a very theatric in style and always get a standing ovations in heir band competitions, despite the scores / location . The band director picked 25 members need to play the Battle Hymm of the Republic that was required for the movie. These members qwere picked for their devotion, leadership, and talent/skill. y son thought it was pretty cool. He was amazed how small the set really was and how long it took to shoot one scene. They had to do their scene many times. All and all it was terrific expreience for him.

Well, as for as I know the scene is a important one.. it is at a pivtol point in the movie. It is at a political rally and it has Meryl Streep in it. What would a rally be without a marching band? This is a remake of the Manchurian Candidate that was a huge film back in 1962 that starred Frank Sinatra. I
