I took him up to bed tonight and when he went over to his hamster cage to say goodnight to "Squirt" he was just laying there in a tube. :sad1: My poor little man!!! Yesterday he lost his goldfish that he won 2 months ago at the festival that is put on here.

I feel so sorry for him!! Luckily he still has his cat to comfort him. Maybe I should keep my mouth shut, I hear things always come in three's. Don't need anything to happen to her.

DS wanted me to tell my friends at the DIS what happened to his hamster. :(

Aww, poor baby, to lose two friends so close together. How old was his hamster?

Let your boy know that both Squirt, along with his little gold fish, are now at the bridge. All animals, big and small, go to that bridge. So sorry to hear that, and give your boy a  from your DIS friends...........

Just this side of heaven is a place
called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet
goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and
play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and
comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those
who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember
them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss
someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and
looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers.
Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs
carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you
cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses
rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once
more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never
absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
Awww your poor son. :( Are you going to get him a new hamster?

Give your son a *hug* from me. Both of my DSs went through the same thing. :(

Tell him that Miss stacilee said she is so sorry.
I had a hamster named "herbie" when I was a teenager.
I loved that little ball of fluff. I carried him around in the pocket of my shirt all the time.
He kept me company walking around on my bed while I did my homework every afternoon.
One day I came home from school and my grandmother was sitting in a hard chair next to his cage.
She said that she had been watching him all afternoon and he hadn't moved an inch and that she was worried about him but was afraid to open the door and touch him.
I knew as soon as I laid my eyes on him that he was dead.
He was stiff and cold and had a surprised look on his little honey-colored face.
She gave me one of her embroidered hankies (one of the ones she always took in the "pock-a-book to church) to wrap him in and I buried him under the maple tree in our little backyard.

Everytime I take my kids to the petstore I have a twinge in my heart when I look at the little hamsters. DH doesn't care for "rodents" too much, which is why that is one pet we don't have.

We have a dog, a cat and 5 singing tree frogs. I guess that's enough. I am going to start my campaign for another dog next year before Brady gets any older. DH is terribly allergic to cats and is so sweet to let me have ONE as it is! He goes every week for allergy shots just so I can have one! The funny thing is, Guess who that cat loves- "Best ALL?"
Yup DH!

Thank you so much for the replys!!!

When I woke DS up this morning for school, he didn't want to go, I can understand that, but the school sure wouldn't. So off to school he went all depressed.

After dropping DS off at school, DH comes home and starts talking about another hamster. Oh boy, here we go again! I didn't feel very well so I went and layed down. When I got up cause it was time to get DD from preschool, DH was no where to be found.

Called him on his cell phone and here he had went out of town and bought DS a guinea pig and all the accessories that it needs.

Like stacilee's DH I don't care much for "rodent" type pets. I am more of the cat, dog person. With having 3 cats, I don't think our home is a very good place for any small pet like that to be. The hamster was in DS's room and now the guinea pig is to with the door shut. It is his and DH's responsiably to make sure it has food and water and clean out it's cage. I take care of the cats and dogs.

**Dan Murphy....Thank you for the poem!!! When we lost our first Rottweiler to cancer the vet's office sent us a nice card that had it in it. I put it up with all of the Rott's {his name was Zeus} stuff and didn't want to get it back out. DS was around when Zeus died and I didn't want to bring back memories of him after loosing his goldfish and hamster. We lost him not to long after my mom passed away and when I told DS that she is now taking care of Zeus, it made him feel a little better.

**phillybeth...We bought the hamster at a pet store and they really weren't sure how old the hamster was. When Dh got the guinea pig, the lady told him that they just got them in and that they are 3 months old. Guess she even showed him the papers saying how old they were. Wish I would have been there, I would have asked for a copy of that paper. DH just doesn't think about that kind of stuff.

This is one bad thing about having pets. You get so attached to them and then you loose them. My "baby" {Half yellow lab, half golden retriever} is 13 years old and I am dreading the day when it's her time. Her and I have been through so much together. Something happens to her, I know I will not be able to hold myself together for my kids.

Thank you again for the posts!!! When DS gets home from school I will show him this thread and all the CARING people who posted.
