Ds's girlfriend

You can make one for my birthday? It's in December.

Actually I just graduated and no one made me a cake, so wanna get baking?!

If I thought it would last in the mail, you would SO be getting a cake from me.

LOL When DH was in Desert Storm ( a hundred years ago), he wrote me and said he missed cake. I knew a cake I baked wouldn't make the shipping, so I sent hime a Jack Daniel's cake. Its a little pound cake soaked in Jack Daniels. It had been so long since he and his buddies had any alcohol, they all got tippsy eating the cake.;)

Eat the ice cream cake thus putting on at least 5 pounds of pure ice cream cake muscle guaranteeing you can take her down in a cat fight. I don't encourage the cat fight but you'll feel better knowing you can whoop her.

I'm just saying.....

Gasp You're baaad!:rotfl2:

Not to add fuel to the fire or anything, but I would like the recipe to that wonderful-sounding pudding dessert. Did you get it from GF? :lmao:

Completely off topic-im a better cook than both of my sons G/F-they like athletic types-but Magic Mom tell me about the horse in your Sig-he or she is beautiful and im guessing either Morgan or Arab-if its a Morgan whats the name and blood line?
Sorry for the hijack=ive been wondering for a while.

OK OK, I confess. It was a banana cream pie pudding thing with an actual crust that she cooked in a big 13x9 inch pan, covered in whipped cream. The story doesn't favor me as much if I have to give the full description....:rolleyes1

I'd have chosen that over an old fuinky-tasting ice cream cake too.

FTR, take the cake back. The taste you're describing means it was an "old" cake that had been in the freezer for a while.

I used to work at an ice cream store and we used to keep a very low number of "ready made" cakes on hand. The boss didn't like customers them to have that old funky freezer taste, so we used to urge our regulars to order them a day or two in advance so they'd be fresh.

I did that same thing to my late DMIL when DH & I were engaged. My DMIL always prided herself on being the BEST gift-giver, and she was. She always gave great gifts! But, his last birthday as a single man, I gave him a set of Henckels knives that he had been pining for, and they weren't cheap. His mother gave him a 13" TV for his bedroom, which would come to us when we married for our bedroom. A great gift, and he thanked his mother sincerely, but then went on and on about the knives...DH loves to cook so he really appreciates good cooking tools. Finally, DMIL said "Well, for the first time ever I've been outdone with a gift". And she was a bit "snitty" about it, for a brief moment. I, of course, jumped in with how thrilled I was about the TV because since I don't cook, the knives meant nothing to me but I would be thrilled to have a TV in the bedroom to watch the late night shows. This, BTW, was not a lie, I was glad to have a TV in the bedroom to watch the late night shows.

I am a firm believer in the statement that no woman ever thinks another woman is 100% good enough for her son. There will always be one little area of "hmmph" that a mother will say about a son's GF or wife. And I got along great with my late DMIL overall, she was a great lady and I loved her dearly.

WHY would she bring a dessert to a birthday party? Am I the only one who assumes there will be birthday CAKE???

Oh, ok she's in high school. Nevermind. And NO drama??

Can I have the cake?

Come on over. Half the cake is left, and about 10 pounds of the pie (it was a really big pie). :goodvibes

One thing I didn't mention (no reason, I just forgot) was how DS reacted to the fact that she brought him a birthday pie. It made him so happy. He was blushing.
His past GF's have been drama queens with lots of problems and very little personailty. This girl is just a sweet normal high school girl, that plays sports and works at the mall.
I guess I would rather have extra dessert over drama queen, flunkies any day.
Yep...a teenage girl who is not a drama queen is a rarity nowadays.
They sound cute. :)

Ok, here's what you do:

NEXT time she comes for dinner (can you arrange it this weekend?), you make brownie trifle.

Make a batch of brownies, cut up and put on the bottom of a trifle bowl. Start making some instant choc. pudding. Pour 1/2 over the brownies. Sprinkle crushed up heath bars over that, cover with cool whip. Repeat layers.

Do you think she'd notice you're showing her up???

:lmao:

WHY would she bring a dessert to a birthday party? Am I the only one who assumes there will be birthday CAKE???

Oh, come on. She's a high school girl - maybe her mother told her it would be polite to bring a dish to share, and she really enjoys making her famous banana cream pie. Or perhaps it's the only thing she knows how to make. Maybe she wanted to do something special for her boyfriend.

At our family parties, we always have something else for dessert besides cake. Not everyone likes cake, and variety is the spice of life after all. :)

Magic Mom, I think you ought to be thanking your lucky stars that she's a nice, down to earth, normal girl who treats your son well. :)

See I thought the same thing too. Then again she is only 16 and trying to impress him.;)

You're right, even though that makes for much less interesting posts.;)

Magic Mom,
Rather than being hard on yourself, you should give yourself a round of applause for recognizing your inner 'monster-in-law' before she got out!!!:lmao: To this day, after 23 years of marriage, my MIL still leaves out ingredients when she gives me a family recipe so that mine will never taste as good as hers. :rotfl:

If only she would do everything the way I wanted them done, then it would all be perfect....sigh

I really hope that you never turn into that kind of MIL. My MIL is constantly trying to push me in directions I would never go in, simply so that I am more like her own daughter. :faint: She buys me clothes I would never wear, ever. And every year for birthdays/Christmas she asks for a list of things I would like so she isn't shopping blind. But she almost never goes by the list, which always leaves me wondering WHY she asks for it in the first place.

She has never been openly critical of me though, thank goodness.

Very true! :rotfl: You could always encourage him to dump Susie Homemaker and start dating one of those trampy mallrat drama queens if you want really interesting posts... ;)

I have to stick up for nice girls everywhere! I'm very lucky that my MIL and I get along so well (she says I'm just as much her kid as my husband and SIL are, she just didn't give birth to me :)). I'd be devastated if she found reasons to dislike me or feel slighted by me. Luckily, she chooses to be kind and generous, and realizes that we both can love her son. :flower3:

Just to be clear, the comment you quoted was meant tongue in cheek.
I promise.:goodvibes
I don't expect the girl to do everything my way.

OMG, that sounds awesome. I may have to run out and get some ingredients... :thumbsup2

OMG!!! this thread is cracking me up!!!!

Little horns!!! :lmao:

The old, son's woman's birthday dessert over moms!!!! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

MagicMom, you are too funny!!!!!

By the way... for your son's sake, keep those horns in check (even though we know that they may sometimes be there...) Cause this girl may be a real winner!!! You want your son to have a woman who is happy to try to please, and who can cook!!! :thumbsup2

PS: Yep, it is hard to think that our babies may have another woman who might be better or more important in their lives... But, that is NECESSARY!!! As the wife of an only son who's parents were overly involved and 'competitive', I know how this goes... It is SOOOO great that you can laugh about it and learn to deal with it now!!! :rotfl2:

My own story... I am from the south, and had learned to do some good southern cooking from scratch... DH is from the north, and no offense to anyone, but many may know the joys of good southern cooking over mediocre northern cooking!!! When I met DH, I wanted to impress him, so I invited him over for a big southern meal, all cooked completely from scratch with fresh ingredients. It turned out just WONDERFUL!!!! When it was his birthday I made him a fresh baked birthday cake with fresh hand-made buttercream frosting... His mother is the one who buys the nasty cheap old cakes from the store counter.

On Thanksgiving I posted about how I had made several homemade foods to contribute, including an absolutely wonderful apple pie topped with fresh walnut streusel. Mother in law had bought a little pre-prepped turkey breast that you just throw in the oven for a while, and a couple of store-bought veggie trays... and she was actually wearing an apron like she was some master chef or wonderful cook!!! :rotfl2: Needless to say, she seemed to be trying to hide her horns, and never said one complimentary word about the foods that I had brought... ;)
