DS's first real big School Project--Looking for ideas

Go the humorous route, Alexander Cummings invented the first flushable toilet. He gets my vote for making a HUGE difference. :lmao:

I thought that was John Crapper - seriously

It looks like we're both wrong:

The toilet was created and then improved by many people over the last 500 years in fact, it continues to be "reinvented" to this day. But the very first flush toilet was invented by Sir John Harington in the 16th century for Queen Elizabeth in her palace at Richmond, Surrey. Back then it was called a "water closet."

Although a Godson to the Queen herself, Sir Harington was a bit of a rebel and was banished twice by the Queen for translating or writing material that she found offensive including a description of the uses of a flush toilet. Harington's invention was seen as a joke to his English peers, so his toilet did not catch on in his lifetime.

Two hundred years later, Alexander Cummings reinvented Harrington's water closet. Cummings invented the S-trap, a sliding valve between the bowl and the trap. It was the first of its kind.

ok I'm no help on the name but there is one person cited for inventing credit - keeping logs of items bought in the old days (think LIttle House) & then paying for them over time....
Have to see if I can come up with a name for ya....

NOPE I'm wrong - accorfing to what I looked up credit started with the Pilgrims - & the installment credit came way later -but no one person's name is given - I watched a show on like CNBC or something about credit & I thought it gave a name - OH WELL -

Just ignore me & I'll go on my way..........

Since I am taking world history right now, I am thinking along the lines of the Industrial Revolution. I see that already there have been good ideas from that period mentioned.

How far back can he go prior to 1904? In regards to the invention of the printing press, he can go even farther with how the Chinese invented paper or even farther to that back to how the Egyptians invented the use of papyrus for writing.

GL!

Rasputin. :) I don't know. I think your son should go with his own idea. :)

Hitler didn't do anything before 1904.

And puleeze tell me that two paragraphs in the fourth grade is not considered a project. Pretty please, with sugar on top.

He must do a 2 paragraph essay, but doesn't he also have to build some sort of monument, too?

Just really bumping in hopes of hearing back as to what your son decided.

Yes, 2 paragraphs in addition to building the monument is the project.

And from now til when it's due, the teacher has them check in with him on certain milestones. For example, over the weekend, he needs to fill in his 'Graphic Organizer' Basically an Outline (lite) for the kids to get their thoughts organized.

DS decided on the Wright Brothers First FLight as his event/project.

Thanks to all for the great ideas.
