DS's close-to-birthday--can't make up my mind!

We're going to be in WDW about 9 days before my 7 yo DS's birthday---trying to stay within value season. When I made my ressie, the CM asked if there was any birthday or special occasion being celebrated and I stammered that, actually,we were going to be there about 1 week before DS's birthday...she said she'd make note of it and to make sure to mention it, esp. at Chef Mickey's. Now, I'm NOT expecting special freebie surprises, but I'm wondering if I should even make a deal/mention it at all. It's just the 3 of us--DH, DS and myself--so it's not like there's some big family gathering where we're going on a fireworks cruise, etc. On one hand, it would be neat to try to create a little pre-celebration at WDW--but I can't figure out how! Would you mention it, as suggested, at CM'S? And what would I say? "My DS's birthday is next week!" Does that really mean anything?

It depends on your DS and how your family nromally celebrates birthdays. My DS grew up with birthdays being no big deal,you got some stuff on your day and that was it. I grew up with birthdays being very elaborate week-long celebrations. Not expensive, just that it was a big deal. I got a party with family, a party with friends, and I got to pick the restaurant for Sunday dinner the week of my birthday. So DH is a little freaked by how I like to do our girls' birthdays. They also have the party with family, a party with friends, plus I take cupcakes to school on the acutal day, and they get taken out to a restaurant of their chocie (within reason, but they always pick Ruby Tuesday - LOL) So this year younger dd's birthday was falling during our trip - wow, I drooled at the possibilities for celebration! Then I felt older dd would be left out, and her real birthday is right before we go, so we let them each pick a character meal for each of their birthdays.That is part of their gift from us. We also do not expect any freebies from Disney, but we hope the girls will be wished Happy Birthday at their respective parties..um..meals. That's all we hope for. We are also bringing some small gifts that we will leave in the room as if they were from each girl's favorite character. We will also likely buy them a Pal Mickey which we would probably not do if it weren't their birthdays.

So that was really long, but if your son's birthday is a big deal - to him or to you - then go for it! Wear the Birthday button! Tell Chef Mickey's you're celebrating him turing 7, it is the truth. Or if he will be upset by people wishing him a Happy Birthday on any day that's not his actual birthday, don't worry with telling CMs, just let him pick a nice souvenir as part of his gift or something. If he's having a party when you get back, you could buy small favors for his friends like pencils or pressed pennies. How much or how little you celebrate is totally up to you Just have fun and enjoy the magic

Um,...sorry it's late. I mean my *DH* grew up with birthdays being no big deal...and that weird looking word at the beginning should be "normally."

Hey, thanks for your opinion and ideas, Laurie! It's funny because both my DH and myself are fairly reserved, low-key people, but our DS is extraordinarily extroverted and would probably love the idea of a month-long celebration if it were up to him! We usually do a family birthday party and then one with his friends. Maybe I could create a little theme along the lines of celebrating with his Disney "friends"? BTW, he's 7 now and will be turning 8...
Does anyone know how I could buy one of those charcter photos with a "signed" Happy Birthday on it?
