DSLR Owners - What Bag To Take To Parks?

Hi all! I am on the hunt for a good bag for Disney. I've seen lots of recommendations but most all of them aren't big enough for me to stash my DSLR in while on rides or in the event of rain. I'm hoping for some input. I'm kind of leaning toward a Vera Bradley messenger bag but I want to do my homework before I commit. Thanks in advance!!

Sorry, we leave ours at home. We just use our iPhones and Photopass so we don't have to lug that thing around

Yea, on our last trip I just shoved a point and shoot camera in my pocket but since this is my daughters first trip I want to take my "good" camera and take an obscene amount of photos. haha!

I'm against leaving your DSLR home... Why did you buy it... To take pictures of your closet..??

I use a DSLR holster, well padded, water resistant, and compact...easy to load and unload camera....but mine is out around my shoulder on a comfortable wide strap until I enter an attraction...

I bought this Nikon D 3000 to take exceptional shots, can't do that when it's at home...

I use an Eddie Bauer sling bag or backpack. They are both nylon and very light weight. I have a bean bag that I put in the bottom which cushions the camera if I put it down and is also a good steady support when I am resting my camera on something narrow to take a photo. I only take one extra lens. Camera bags I find too big and bulky, even the new ones.

My DSLR spent time just hung across my body and also in my bag. I ordered this one... http://www.ebags.com/product/ameribag/healthy-back-bag-distressed-nylon-small/3190?productid=9201 it wasn't VERY padded, but it was a little bit and worked well so I could just put the camera in and take it out really easily.

BTW I had my Canon 7D in it with a 17-50mm lens on it. I also carried my large telephoto one in it as well.

What ever bag you decide on, I would suggest spraying it with Camp Out. Its a water repellent that I get at WalMart and spray on my luggage, & Vera Bradley bag.

I use a crumpler 5 million home. I like a lot of padding around my canon. Whatever bag you choose do a teat run! I see so many people uncomfortable with new bags at the park. Make sure its comfy and meets your needs.

How "waterproof" does this make you bag? I'm guessing a light sprinkling is okay, but not a drenching? I've never done cotton with the waterproof spray before

Hey hey! So I have a Canon 60D and I suggest whatever bag you choose pick something that you can access quick and fast. When you're walking around Disney it becomes a hassle to keep reaching back in the backpack or down messenger bag to take the camera out over and over. Especially when some of the best pictures are things that just happen really suddenly! I'm gonna try and make my own bag so I don't know of any that might be good. ><

I agree with you! I take my camera everywhere. Last time we went, I hadn't bought the dslr yet so taking it this time is going to be a new experience! I'm hoping to carry the camera around my neck the majority of the time and only need the bag for rain and certain rides! Thanks for your suggestion!!

Good idea about the bean bag. I have a camera bag that looks like a purse. I think I can take the foam pads out of it and put them in the bottom of whatever bag I end up with for our trip! Thanks for the great idea!

Thanks so much for the link! I'm hoping to have the camera on maybe a black rapid strap 90% of the time so getting a super padded bag shouldn't be necessary.

I have a 60D too! I'm hoping to keep the camera out and around my neck 90% of the time. The bag is just for rain/water rides/rollercoasters/etc. Thanks for the suggestions!! Good luck making a bag!

I have a Nikon D90 & use a Tamrac Aero backpack as my plane carry-on and around parks. It's a lot smaller than a normal backpack, but it can hold my Nook, cell phone, snacks & sunscreen in the top section. The bottom section is divided to hold the camera plus extras. Then I use the mesh pockets on the sides for water bottles. It usually fits b/w my legs or next to me on rides. It's not waterproof, but it fits under a poncho with me and since the camera is in the bottom half, the top half absorbs/repels water until I can get under cover....I also tucked a plastic bag in my bag to put the the camera bag inside of if I was putting the camera bag at my feet during a "water-ish" ride.

If I'm going somewhere that I don't want to have my camera hanging around my neck (or don't want to stop & pull it out from the backpack) - I pad a purse/messenger bag like others suggested. But it gets unexpectedly heavy after a long day, so def test it out.

I have a Lowepro SlingShot for my DSLR that fits my camera, spare lens, flash and a couple of other goodies quite tidly. I've gone hiking on a difficult trail up and down the sides of almost vertical climbs, up and over boulders and across 30 foot waterfalls with a Border Collie's leash in one hand, and my camera was safe. The bag was comfortable and out of the way, so I suspect it would do well for WDW.

Now for my word of warning: my Lowepro bag even came with a rain bag. . .which did NOT help when I got stuck in a down pour in NOLA one day. I took the camera apart when I realized what had happened and fortunately everything dried out okay.

Florida is tropical. Heavy rain storms happen. Buy some good dry bags or at least a package of the best heavy duty Ziploc bags for your camera and gear. Don't learn your lesson the hard way!

I always use my TimBuk 2 bag. They come with lifetime warranties and are made out of military grade nylon and are fairly waterproof.

I went on Kali River Rapids and the bag holder in the middle didn't seal. Everyone else's bags got soaked while my iPhone and Cameras were safe and dry in my bag.

I would highly recommend this bag to anyone!
