I know there are a fair number of PHOTOGS on this particular board and thought I would share with you my preliminary review of the 5D MK III (Just the camera and not the video . . . yet . . . to be continued)
I have been shooting for over 3 decades and two of them film (slides) with a Minolta SRT 101 35MM and when I switched to digital over a decade ago I never thought the images would ever pick up the clarity and warmth of film, but I was totally blown away today from my recently purchased 5D MK III, an upgrade from my MK II.
Today was the first time I used it and it was like driving a Porsche. The immediate change I noticed was the grease lightening fast autofocus . . . it was almost like the camera was laughing at me and saying is this the biggest challenge you have for me to focus on . . . no hesitation, no confusion, it locked on its target quicker then I could focus my eye on my subject. Even at a high focal length when DOF can be problematic, the 61-Point High Density Reticular autofocus allows for an expanded photo image even during close-ups.
My only compliant is having to press the lock release while moving the exposure setting mode dial, but I guess I'll have to manage : - )
Well it looks like I will be on a tight budget for a long-time after this purchase and will have to live through others going to the World.
The weather in NY was bad today, cloudy and cool and I went to the Planting Fields greenhouse in Oyster Bay, Long Island and stayed in the Main Greenhouse to test drive this machine.
All these shots were hand-held using existing light and I didn't bother with my tripod and I used a 100MM Prime "L" lens and an EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM AF Lens
