DS10 playing "A Whole New World" on Piano!

DS10 has been taking piano lessons for 2 1/2 years and is doing very well with it. He seems to have some natural ability and LOVES to play! I bought him a book of favorite children's songs to enjoy while he also works on his lesson books. For the past 2 weeks he's been working on learning "A Whole New World" and he's done a great job with it. What a beautiful song! It brings tears to my eyes when he plays it (which gives him the perfect opportunity to make fun of me!).

Just wanted to share. I'm sure many of you have these moments when your child does something that brings a tear (of joy/pride) to your eye. Anyone else want to share?

Hmmm...I think that the book also has "Beauty and the Beast" in it. Maybe I'll see if he want to try that one next. So much of the Disney music is absolutely incredible!

Could you give me the name of your son's "fun" piano book? My son is also 10 1/2 and has played for the same amount of time. He also loves it and it is so much fun to have that music floating through the house. I think the best is when he comes in all sweaty after a sports practice and sits down at the piano to just "chill out" and play for a while. I like to think I have a little renaissance man!

The name of the book is "The Best Children's Songs Ever" and the publisher is Hal-Leonard. It's rated "Easy Piano" and is a great level for DS. It's a big book - almost 300 pages and cost about $20. He's really enjoyed it - some favorites are "Puff the Magic Dragon", "My Favorite Things" and of course "A Whole New World". There are 32 Disney songs as well as some Broadway show tunes and old stand-bys (Take Me Out To The Ball Game, Down By The Station, Alouette, etc.). We've gotten a lot of mileage out of this book!

I guess that is one real nice thing about having a daughter. When you cry over something you are proud of them about they will cry with you. Unlike a son who finds it funny and laughs. But yes, I love those moments when you can cry over your child's accomplishments. That is such a beautiful song.
