Our oldest DS becomes an adult today - turns 18! I don't know where the time went! He's a great kid, works (and plays) hard and enjoys family. We are very lucky! :goodvibes

So, we have been trying to think of all of the milestones for this birthday (some good, some not so good):

Debit card can now go in his name instead of mine and he can use it anywhere, not just at the ATM (good)
Driving restrictions are lifted in MA - he was only able to drive until midnight but now he can drive at any time (good for him, not so good for parents - I liked the built-in curfew!)
Register for Selective Service (definitely not good on my list)

Anything else to add to our list?

He asked to go to TGI Fridays for dinner tonight, so that's what we'll do. We helped him buy a TV for his room (that will go to college with him) and he'd like speakers for it (better sound I guess). I'll pick up the new Borat DVD today for his brothers to give him. Not the most exciting birthday this year, but he knows we're getting him a laptop for his high school graduation, so he understands.

Lottery tickets!
On my 18th birthday I bought scratch tickets, registered to vote, and had a college interview.

Happy Birthday to your Son!!:bday: party:

Our son is also 18 and a Senior in High School.

The Selective Service form should arrive in your mailbox today.

My son kept saying: "Big whoop-de-doo, I'm gonna be 18 and I can now buy lottery tickets, cigarettes (he doesn't smoke) and porn.":rotfl:

So----- On his 18th birthday he got a bag with a lottery ticket, a pack of candy cigarettes and a Stuff (or something like that) magazine (I just couldn't buy an actual porn magazine!:crazy2: ). :rotfl2: He thought it was pretty funny.

:bday: party: To your son.

My DD(18) did the same thing, went out and got a lottery ticket on her birthday.

Happy Birthday to your DS!

He can register for the Selective Service online (very short form!): https://www4.sss.gov/regver/register1.asp (Men who have registered remain eligible for Federal student aid, most Federal jobs, and Federal job training.)

You might look into getting a low-limit credit card in his and your names so he can start building a credit history.

My oldest turned 18 Feb. 10...I agree where does the time go???:confused3 I still remember sitting and rocking him...I agree with your list although I think he does not know about the driving thing, lol...that is fine with me too! Happy birthday to your son...:bday:
