We just put our kids to bed, and not more than 2 mins. go by and we hear a bump, then the scream. My 2 yr. old DS climbed to the top bunk of the bed, then fell off and hit his eyebrow on a chair. Thank God it was not his eye! My DH just left to take DS to the ER. Looks like 5 or so stitches.

My question, are boys more accident prowen (sp??) than girls?? In 4 y.o. DS has only been to the hospital once, but DS has been 3x already.

I am still trying to figure out why the chair was in the bedroom. And why DS was on the top bunk. I'll keep you posted!

Awwww, poor baby!!

And boys are not always more accident prone. My DD, 4 has been to the ER for injuries about 7 times and has had stitches/staples several times. She has a big scar under her chin:(

DS has only been once in his 6 years for injuries.

Let us know how he is doing!

Poor little guy :( I hope he feels better.

My friend swears it's the second child syndrome. Both my DH and my brother were in and out of the ER constantly as kids bcause of stitches and breaks and amputations. Neither myself, my sister, nor my SILs were so unfortunate. My friend has 2 boys - her youngest is at the ER every 4-6 mos without fail. Same thing with my cousin - Her 2 boys aren't accident prone at all. Her DD is the middle child and is always hurting herself somehow

Poor baby, I hope he's ok. Is there any way you could take the bunk beds down until he's at least 4?

Top bunk is always better......higher, more fun. :)

Kids can make you old fast. Hang in there, you only have about 20 years to go. Hoping he does well tonight, I am sure he will. {{Hugs}}

Jenzebelle--Maybe your on to something with the 2nd Child syndrome. I was a walking accident and I was the 2nd Child, now DS (2nd child) another walking accident. Hmmm...

ahhmom1--the bunk bed is going to come down this weekend! DS does have his own bed in another room, but loves to be with DD. But, I think we will have sleepovers in each others rooms. Oh boy re-decorating this weekend--I better get cracking on a theme for DS's room!

BTW, just got a call from DH, they have already been seen at triage--just waiting to see a dr. Record time so far! Last time I was at the ER I waited for 3 hours, finally saw a dr. He had to admit me because I was sooo yellow! I had a gall stone blocking my liver duct--so I had to have my gall bladdere taken out! Having gall stones was, in my opinion, worse than going through labor!!

ckmommy, I hope I didn't sound rude, I didn't mean to. Bunk beds just always make me nervous with the little ones.

ahhmom1--I didn't take you as being rude. I agree with you about the wholde bunk bed idea. I have always thought that bunk beds were not very safe, but went along with my DH on putting it up. We had gotten it from a friend for very cheap! It will be put in the garage sale that I am going to have some year:D :D .

Dan Murphy: You sound just like my kids:rolleyes:

Great to get a post from you! I am fairly new to the CB, but see your posts everywhere. Nice to meet you!

My ds went to the ER for the first time at 7 weeks and I have lost count of how many times since.

I've definately had to take my ds to the ER more often than my dd. She's still jealous because he's broken a bone and she hasn't. However, my ds isn't nearly as accident prone as his mother.:o

I hope your ds is feeling ok this morning.:)

2 hours and 4 stitches later, DS and DH were home. DS fell asleep in the ER. He actually stayed sleeping while they stitched him up. I could not believe it! DH just left with DS to get a treat for being so brave last night! Thanks everyone for listening!

My DD did the same thing from a regular bed when she was 3 or 4. She hit her eyebrow on the night stand. They just butterfly stitched it though.

My DS has had his fair share of injuries too. Several more than DD. I do think boys are rougher in their play and can result in more injuries.

Both of them had plenty of skinned knees however. But DS had more head bumps, more stitches and a broken bone. He also knocked his two front baby teeth back up into his gum when he was 18 months jumping on the bed  He jumped two times, I grabbed at him to stop and he fell and hit his mouth on the night stand.

Maybe it's night stands :teeth:

OUCH poor baby!
I hope he feels better really soon!

My nephew suffers the second chikld syndrome but my second child doesnt... she is never hurt ( knock on wood)

Poor baby...:(

We have taken our DS#2 (middle child) so many times to the ER for sutures, I have lost count. :( :( We go at least once a year with him.:(

I hope your little boy is feeling better soon and that the ER experience wasn't too traumatic for him.:D

DS3 fell off DS8's top bunk in May and fractured his eyebrow bone. I wondered if it was just him or what, but this is his 4th visit to the ER. Maybe it is that 2nd child syndrome. Would explain a lot of things.

Glad to hear your little ones going to be okay.

DS's fall prompted us to redo both kids rooms with new beds. We have a set of bunkbeds in the garage, free to a good home, if anyones interested!;)

This is the reason that I wouldn't let my mom buy a set of bunk beds for my ds for his birthday this year. she thought he would really enjoy having the bunk beds and all i could see were the dr. bills for taking him to the ER after he played superman. We didn't get a bunk bed!! But i do call my savings account my "stitches and cast fund". We haven't had to use it yet, but I'm sure we will.

with the second child thing, I think I will skip a second child and go straight to number 3!!!!!
