DS off to 1st grade...

Jennifer,
Oops............3rd grade was about the age that my DD got into all of the unsure fellings about friends and started to be a little shy. It didn't last too long but she actually worried so much for a while that she got a nervous tummy & she would take children's Mylanta.

Oh my, I remember well how I felt during those first few days. Be prepared to have a good cry while your child seems to handle it just fine. (Even though I've seen that some kids cry too and I feel so sad for them!) Hugs to all parents who feel a bit sad or lost right now.

My baby starts 1st grade next Tuesday too....I am kinda excited about it.....DH thinks it's time for me to get a job now.....but I would like to experience my whole day free for a while....I can't wait!!!

First days are definately harder on MOST Moms than they are on Most Kids! ;)

Serious question for you Moms, though. Is it because it's finally a full-day of school that you're More concerned than when it was just PK/Kndg? I wonder because many Kndg programs are becoming or, have been full-day already so, I would think that problem would have been hard last year. Or, is ANY first-day hard?

I know when I dropped off DD for her 1st day of PK4 today, she could've cared less. The teacher (previously on maternity leave at end of PK3) was BACK! The teacher thought ALL the 4's were SOOOO much better than the incoming 3's as well as soooo much better than they were last year. LOL My DD wouldn't look over her shoulder at me, that's how much she likes going! She cracks me up!

Those kids picked up Right where they left off in June, friendship-wise! It was a blessing and, lots of fun to watch! ;)

Well, it is not 1st grade, but my baby sister is starting high school this year:(

I think it may be all of the big firsts in their lives. When my twins, who are my oldest, started K I was a blubbering mess the night before. I decided that I needed another baby & that's why I now have the DS6 who this thread was started about:) I also had a really tough time letting the twins, now 13, go to middle school. I think that the protective feeling stays no matter how old your "child" may be. Next year the twins will start high school and I know that will be hard for Mom too.

To answer KimRaye's question, DS went to full day kindergarten last year. For some unknown reason, 1st grade just seems to be "big kid school", whereas when DS was in pre-k and kindergarten, I still thought of him as a little boy. Maybe it's because 1st grade is the first year of school that I recall a lot. I don't remember as much about preschool or kindergarten.

My baby starts her junior year of high school next Thursday. I still remember so vividly her SECOND day of first grade (I drove her the first day)....when she got on this big yellow bus and drove away and I burst into tears and cried all the way to work, wondering why on earth I had just le her get on this bus (to go all of 3/4 of a mile) ;)

Anyway....big hugs to all the moms as their babies grow up!
