DS just swallowed a penny- GREAT update page 3

OK- here's the Mommy scoop- I didn't read all of this thread so if this has already been said then great minds think alike! :flower: I'm the oldest of 18 kids- I know my mom was crazy!

Anyway, when one of her little ones ate money or some such other item, she would lift the cover and ring of the toilet seat up- (this also works with potty chairs and is a clean way to check )- then she would line the toilet with saran wrap and make sure it had a bit of a dip in the middle to collect the deposits ( so to speak  ), make sure that the wrap doesn't go too deep or it will be wet yeck-- anyway, the ring then went down and the toilet was used as usual- when the offender was finished with their job, she would un-wrap the saran wrap from the toilet while wrapping the solids up like left overs :rotfl2: - it made it easy to check by feeling and squishing the contents while still in the wrap and she didn't have to touch it, fish it out of the potty or clean up the mess after- it went in a nice little heap into the garbage can just like a dirty diaper! - Mom- she had some great ideas that I've used with my kids.

This also works for little girls when they have a bladder infection- if you have to get a sample for the doctors office- just be careful when you lift off the wrap to tilt the liquid into a ziplock baggie so you don't lose any.

HTH anyone in the future who has to dig for "gold" :teeth:

Well, went back to the Dr. today (they had their yearly check-ups previously scheduled). Since our little piggybank hadn't made a deposit as of yet, he went ahead and did another x-ray and it HAS moved out of the stomach but it right about in the area where the large and small intestines connect. He prescribed some stool softener just to "move" things along a little and it should be within the next couple of days or so. I hope so because I don't like having to pay for too many appts and x-rays waiting for a penny to come out!! Sheesh.... But the worst of the day was the booster shots she needed and the little one getting chickenpox shot today too....

Ah, the joys of parenting....

Triplefigs, keep us updated on what you find out about your little one!! :goodvibes

Glad to hear it is all "moving along". I think of you every time I have to inspect it, all the time holding my breath so I don't gag!

Triplefigs - That's funny, I THINK OF YOU AS WELL...each and every time i'm checking that nastiness for that stupid penny! :rotfl:

Know that I am cheering you on in your "treasure hunt"!!! :cheer2: :cheer2:

Isn't the DIS just great????!!!!! It's so nice to have somewhere where I can not only talk about WDW and all of that stuff but also find other people going through the same things (trivial as they may seem). So glad I found this place!!! :earsgirl:

:cool1: Now you can set fire to that close hanger!

Oh, I've been "digging" with surgical nursing gloves on. Much quicker and easier to feel.

I don't think ANY of them will do this again. I took the penny and showed them what a penny looks like after traveling the GI tract. They were all appropriately grossed out and vowed NEVER to eat anything except food! :scared1:

My good friend (who has triplets) emailed me and said that I should watch out. This story will end up being mentioned at their weddings when they're toasting each other one day...:rotfl:

This is so funny! Had a bad day, and this cheered me up! I am glad that all worked out well, too! The things parents go through! :earseek:
"Digging for gold" = unconditional love! :lovestruc

Triplefigs - congrats on your victory!!!!!!!! Started DD on Stool Softener tonight so hopefully my time will come soon!!!! (If it doesn't I'm going to have to start using a gas mask because I swear each time I get closer to throwing up!!!)

I am hoping for DD's penny to make its appearance tomorrow....

I'm so happy since you were concerned about the penny being able to make it through that it did so easily. Did he realize when it came out? Did it hurt him at all when it was close to time?

Ok, sorry to hijack your thread, but now I'm waiting on mine. (DH thinks we should save the penny for the scrapbook. :crazy2: ) I'm thinking I'll be happy to see it go.... :cheer2:

Glad to see the update...but concerned for myself as I am so excited about poop!

All hail the poop queen!

No, he didn't complain at all. In fact, it was completely hidden. If I hadn't examined closely with the gloves, I'd have missed it. I flushed the penny... it was pretty nasty to say the least. Keep posting here. I want to know how you "come out"! :rotfl:

Lulu! Glad you liked my pumpkin. Are you a Halloween fanatic too? I love all the holidays!

yes, I "borrowed" it . . . :guilty:

it is adorable! the eyes remind me of Stitch.

I *love* all holidays, too - I'm a teacher and I decorate my room each season- for Halloween and Christmas especially. I have a wicker pumpkin filled w potpourri, a "live" pumpkin, fall leaf garlands, window stickies, etc. I have developed this system of wreath making whereby I have 2 wreaths linked by a large ribbon over my doorway so they hang like a teetertotter - no pins, tape, etc. just equilibrium. (if this makes any sense! lol)

I am making a ghoulash casserole with mashed potato ghosts for Halloween, I already made caramel apples the other day, so I think I"m going to make this graveyard cake I saw in a magazine. I bought 200 dollars worth of Halloween candy! :cold: I have 135 students (high school) plus trick or treaters . . . so it adds up, even buying on sale. I've got some other ideas for Halloween I'm dreaming up, too. All this- and I have no kids. haha!

Tommygirl79-

go Penny Jr.!!!!! :cheer2:

UPDATE!!!! The "Eagle" has "landed". MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!!! The penny has made its appearance (and disappearance) and I couldn't be happier about it!!! :cool1: :cool1: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cool1: :cool1:

Right before preschool today - her teacher was quite relieved that she didn't have to worry about it!

And of course, the first words out of DH's mouth, "Did you keep it?" I said no and he was disappointed - he wanted to see it. :crazy2:

Well, that's over. Come on next parenting crisis - I'M READY FOR YA!!! :earboy2:

Congrats to you both! I've been lurking--and hoping for a good outcome for the two penny-swallowers. I've felt your pain. Celebrate!
