DS just broke his leg...

We are flying. I double checked with his doctor today when he got his actual cast, and he said it was fine.

Be sure you call your airline and request a wheelchair to meet him at the airport and at your arrival gate, unless you will be traveling with your own wheelchair.

How is he going to fit in his seat if he can't bend his leg? I have traveled with my husband when he had two different leg injuries; one with a brace from ankle to hip, but he was able to loosen the knee section so he could bend his leg. I don't see how he could have fit in the seat without bending his leg.

Opps! sorry for the bad advice on the scratcher. (thanks for correcting me). We actually didn't have the cast for the broken leg. We had the immobolizer that went on and off with the Velcro. Our break/crush was at the top of the tibia so they couldn't do a cast. This will be our first trip going through security with pins/plate in his leg.

I am glad to hear your DS is in better spirits. I am sure he must feel more secure with the cast on.

Ask for bulkhead seats - there is usually more leg room on those seats.

Small update -

After lots of thought and juggling things around, I was able to reschedule the trip for June 20th- 27th. DS will have his long cast replaced with a half cast by then, so he will be able to bend his knee. I am going to ask if the short cast can be waterproof, so he can ride the water rides if he wants.

Thanks to everyone for the great advice! It was really helpful :thumbsup2

Well glad you were able to postpone the trip. I hope you were able to change your airfare without much additional cost. Last year I was flying AA and ended up having to pay $450 in change fees and only $50 more for the fare difference.

Kids are amazing aren't they. They bounce back so fast. I am glad to hear he is getting around good. I bet he is getting a lot of positive attention from the girls :) Tell him to soak it up :)

Keep us updated on how he is doing

We're actually flying Southwest, so no change fees and the flight was actually cheaper. Disney was awesome - the CM I talked to said that there is normally a $50 fee to change dates less than 30 days from travel, but she waived it for me!

Good plan. The trip will be much easier and more fun with the smaller cast.

I'm glad he'll have the shorter cast! We will be there near the end of your trip and DH just broke his foot on a jump this week ( airborne army ) He will have a short cast as well so this trip will be different for us too. Hope you all have a blast no matter what.
