DS(5) hurt his leg pretty good tonight bouncing on a trampoline at a friend's son's BDay party. He tried to do a flip and his knee banged the edge. He doesn't want to walk or straighten it out so we are taking him to the emergency room to see what is up. Think good thoughts!

oh my! I hope he didn't break anything!

My son fell off his bike and split his lip and his little friend just got stung by a swarm of bees, 8 bites I think - not a good night for us mom's is it? :(

I hit my knee when I was young and broke the knee-cap. Hope that isn't what happened to him. It sure did hurt.

I'm hoping for good news.

ugh! I HATE trampolines!! Younger DS broke his elbow at age 14 on one of those - right at the end of baseball season - his coach wasn't happy! (neither were we!)
Hoping you got good news and it's nothing serious!

I hope he is feeling better soon and didn't do too much damage. Poor thing!:(

Funny thing is I read the thread title as "My son hurt his leg going (on the way) to the emergency room"...and thought WOW, what are the odds?

Don't know much--DS would not straighten his leg completely so they didn't get a complete XRay. He is not to walk on it for 36 hours. It may be a buckle fracture. We are to call an orthopedist on Monday first thing and get in there.
There is also fluid in the joint--I'm hoping it's a sprain, because a buckle fracture is 6 weeks in a cast and he starts kindergarten Aug. 28. He's already so little I don't want him to miss 2 weeks of school and get behind. I have to stop worrying about stuff that hasn't happened!
I never let DH get a trampoline and I'm sure not letting him now-there were adults there and everything--stuff just happens in spite of supervision. If you are considering getting one, DON'T!

I hope you get good news on Monday......hate the way these things always happen at weekends tho

Robin, that is such a shame. I hope he is doing better today. Poor kid!!!:(

Oh, I think those trampolines are bad news! But, "stuff happens" with kids, like you said.
Hope you get good news on Monday!!
Why couldn't he go to kindergarten in a cast?

Well we are all up and he does seem better, he was kind of straightening it out in his sleep and has refused a dose of tylenol w/codeine (can I have it?). Can't do anything today but take it easy--might take them to see Spy Kids 3.
The doors in the K classes at school aren't big enough for a wheelchair and he is too little for crutches, the dr. thought last night--plus the teacher would have to take him to the potty. But we'll cross that bridge when we come to it, which we hopefully won't.
More later, thanks for caring everybody!

WOW! I cant believe the doors arent big enough on a school classroom. I know at our schools we have to be wheel chair accessible everywhere. We have a couple of teachers who use the electric chairs and lots of kids in regular chairs. Good luck. I hope he is much better tomorrow!

I could be wrong, but I thought it was illegal for a school not to be accessible to wheelchair-bound people! What about the Americans with Disabilities Act?

I thought all classrooms had to be wheelchair accessible.

Please keep us posted after you talk to someone tomorrow :)

I'm pretty sure that the school would have to find a way. He shouldn't have to miss school if he's in a wheelchair. Keep us informed.

Sending my good thoughts and prayers for your son. I hope he will be better real soon.

I agree with your thoughts on trampolines, Robin. I watched a TV program about a year ago on the dangers of trampolines. The report stated that trampolines are falsely advertised as being a fun, safe, and recreational type of thing for families to have in their backyards. They interviewed people who had purchased tampolines for their children, thinking that it would be a good thing for everyone to play with. Unfortunately, it turned out, in many cases, to be a disaster due to the frequency of injuries incurred by the use of the trampoline.

They showed through diagrams and computer-generated images just how fractures in the ankle, knee or leg occur when the momentum of your body bouncing up and down on the trampoline goes against the opposite movement of the trampoline going up and down -- often a break or fracture occurs in an instant. I would think there could be a liability problem of people getting hurt on the trampoline on your property, too.
For the amateur person using a trampoline, the TV report suggested extreme caution on the part of the user.

You know I would think everything has to be accessible as well, but my girls have gone to that school since 1998 and I know those doors are just regular width. Wonder what would happen if they did have someone in a chair? Hmmmm. Hopefully I won't have to find out, but the school is only 24 years old, wonder why the doors are regular width.
The school office doesn't reopen until Aug. 12, so by then I will know if we need the extra help or not.
Lady M., more than one nurse last night said that trampolines and 4 wheelers keep them in business
