Please recommend games that are easily played by a 5 year old boy. The only game he plays right now is the Crayola Treasure Adventure game. He got Shrek Ogres and Donkeys for Christmas but it's too advanced. He also has Diego and Wonder Pets but hasn't really played them.

And please, no flames if you think 5 year olds shouldn't play video games. We use it as a reward for good behavior and limit his time. I'm only interested in recommended games.

Edited to add this is budget related b/c I can't afford to keep buying games that he won't play! :-)

MarioKart, MarioKart, MarioKart!

Our 5-year-old loves it, and it is really easy to play. Oh, and no flames from me. She started playing the DS when she found my husband's at age 3 or 4.

If you search Amazon for 'Smartboys ds' or 'Smartkids ds' there's a few different games that seem aimed at that age group. I've seen them used for around $10-$15 at Gamestop and I think they've got a 7 day or 30 day trial period if you don't like the game you can exchange it.

I second MarioKart. Also The Legendary Starfy and Super Mario 64 ds.

Phineas and Ferb
Star Wars - The Complete Saga (he could play this for hours!)

Definitely mariokart.

and have you checked into buying used games -- we have a great store in our city that buys and sells all video games. Honestly sometimes I feel like I'm just renting them for a few weeks, because some games get boring for my DD when she has played them too many times -- once the challenge is gone, it won't get played again.

IMO, the best game for everyone is the NEW Super Mario. It is great and can be played by all. The game also has legs and can be played for a long time.

My 4 year old got a DS for Christmas and he likes Super Mario Bros and Go Diego Go:Great Dinosaur Rescue.

Do you have a DS lite or a DSi?

Just curious while we have DSes now my kids all had GBA at that age and I can think of several games for the GBA that you can get cheap (think $2 or $3) at Gamestop what will work on DS Lites - these include candyland/memory/chutes & ladders (3 games in 1), rescue heroes and my kids' all time favorite Donkey Kong Country (well, this one may be more expensive - our copy was lost and we replaced a couple years ago and I paid $30 for a used copy).

For the DS lite or DSi I also recommend Mario Kart! Kids love it.

Other great games include anything Lego. My kids played them on the GBA at that age and continue to use them on their DS lites.

I also second PP on Star Wars the complete saga they love this one.

I am going to second finding a used game store. My DS is 11 so I'm not going to recommend any games I'm sure they have changed since he was 5 (but diff. Star Wars games are still being played!)

My DS usually has 2 different levels of desire for a game, 1 it is really good, has got really great reviews and he wants it full price, new for like Christmas AND

then the games he wants but is willing to wait a bit and get them at a reduced rate at the used game store. Most of his games are bought this way. This way he can get more also. $30 of Birthday money goes a lot further when they aren't new! You have to be willing tho to go a few times until they have it in.

I am also going to reccomend game stop. They were so nice helping us pick out games and let you bring used ones back in 7 days if they are to hard or do not like them.

:) My three kids have a DSi each. They are 6, 4 and 2.

My 6 years old boy likes..

bold, new super mario, lego stars wars, transformers, namco, clever kids, ben10, spider man, iron man, playmobil pirate, lego batman, smart boys, disvovery kids, astro boy, leho indiana jones, mario kart, super mario, mario 64.

All my boys loved the Mario games and I want to say Donkey Kong too. They also loved Pokemon. My youngest was playing it at that age but I'm not sure if it had something to do with the fact that he had an older brother who played. When I helped at the school library last year, all the boys and some of the girls loved the pokemon books. I didn't see kindergarteners but I did see the rest and they were popular from grades 1-3 and some of the older ones but that was usually just a blow off book for them. I didn't think it was still popular but I guess it is.

My 5 yr old loves Lego Indiana Jones, Lego Batman and Lego Star Wars.

I didn't know they made Lego games for the DS. Thanks for the tip. We're driving from Utah to Kentucky this summer, and our daughter loves the Star Wars Lego game. This will definitely help pass the time. Thanks!

Thank you so much! I bought this off half.com the night you recommended it, it already came today :cool1: DS LOVES it! Even my almost 2.5 year old was playing it. Thank you so much!
