I'm not talking about the usual "babbling"! He is making up words for certain items! For instance:

"A mine"= his blanky!! (I always play with him and take the blanket and say "that's mine")

A ahhhh= his toothbrush! He has a tooth brushing fetish and of course we always say ahhh when brushing!

A hi= the phone!

A eye= a Halloween decoration...it is a skeleton that dances and sings and his eyes light up!

We have a joke in the house that myself and ds(6) speak fluent "Mattie" but dh only speaks "broken Mattie"! :rotfl2:

Every day he adds a new one! At least he's talking now! :teeth:

My daughter does that too-she's 19 months. it took her forever to talk too but now she's getting the hang of it and loves making up her own words too. Cheese is Eeyo (which stemmed from Cheerios, which was initially Eeyo) and she calls herself 'me-ma'. We think she got that from how we say 'mama, dada, nana', so she knew me was to refer to her so that became 'me-ma' rather than just 'me', like you have to add another syllable on. She'll point to me and say 'mama' then point to herself and say 'mema'. Gotta love the cute things toddlers do!

My daughter does this also, the funny think is that she knows the words for them and will say them but only if you prompt her.. my favorites are

honk honk- pigs ( she got this from honking her nose, which used to be her sign for pig

giddy up- Horse

Baby- ( her cousin, makayla or a friends baby)

Mootow- cow

rocklee milk - chocolate milk

rah! - monsters inc.

my all time favorite is instead of saying binky, she points to her mouth open like a bird. but that is being replace by her hawwoween because she has a halloween binky

Yep, all my kids did this too.

My youngest will be 2 in one week! Her blanket is called "Dora" (no, she doesn't watch the show!). All babies are called "La-La's". She calls my mother "mom" - because that's what I call her. It's funny to see people's reactions in public when she calls for "mom" and grandma comes running. She calls me "mama".

AHh, what happy memories! My oldest son called all men Daddy for the longest time, but his our father was My-dee(My Daddy.) DD was pretty much completely breastfed(her choice) until she was 14 months old. She referred to her cup as "ba-ba". At church so sweet nursery worker felt sorry for her that her obvioulsy clueless mother didn't even leave her with a bottle, and fixed her one herself. From that point on "Ba-ba" was bottle and it took a couple months to break that.

DS10 still calls me Oma(om-om-om-om...)

Great advice! I keep telling myself I need to, but of course, keep forgetting!

DS is 2 1/2 and I crack up at some of his pronounciations/words.

'fowa' was his pacifier (which we thankfully sent to the fowa fairy just last month!) and boy did I get looks from people whenever he'd ask for it. Nobody could figure out what the heck a 'fowa' was!

'key' is his blankey

'bading soup' is his bathing suit....and I am sure there are others, but I can't recall at the moment.

My kids were watching home movies this weekend from when the older 2 where both under 3. It was funny to watch them NOW not understanding what they were talking about!! :teeth: Oddly enough, I still rememebered it all. :rolleyes1

Some of their favorites were:

a "brum brum" - a car
a "tonka" - a truck
a "cickle" - motorcycle
"brother" - what Jeana called Kirk

Oh, the good ol' days! :flower:

You have to be REALLY careful of what you call things around kids, because they pick up everything!

My MIL used to babysit my niece when she was little. One of their favorite activities was walking around and naming all the people in pictures. Well, MIL would always say "Who is this guy?" when pointing to my DH. Well, my niece somehow associated him with being "Guy". She knew him by his name, would know exactly who Uncle Troy was, but she called him Guy for about a year. Too cute.

My younger brother called his pacifier an "I-Sigh". We don't know where he picked that up as everyone in our household called it a pacifier.

Sigh....I remember those days -LOL

Blankets were - Meme's
Santa Claus - Ita Caws
Piglet was - pitpit

My brothers name is Jeremy but neither DS or DD could say it so he was Uncle wormy - That turned into Uncle Gummy Wormy and now they call him Uncle Gummy Worm - still to this day - LOL
