Dryer question

My dryer is doing strange things!!!! After I dry a load of clothes.....if I don't get them out within an hour.....they get wet again from "condensation" in the dryer....that is the best way I can describe it.


Even when the dryer is empty and I haven't dried anything for days....if I open it, there will be atleast a quart of water in it!!! This problem just started about a month ago.

Any ideas?

Not really....but have you cleaned your dryer hose lately?

Does it vent out of the roof? If so, you might have a leak in the cap or maybe it has blown off. Or the vent could be full of lent and it is dripping out of it. If this is it, count your lucky stars it is moisture instead of a blaze.

No, it vents out of the side of the house. I always change the vent trap..... but have never cleaned the actual hose. So, would I just pull that big metal tube off and look in it?

Yeah, the vent hose should be changed yearly (plastic) or cleaned yearly (metal). Sounds like the flap on the outside part is probably too clogged to close when the dryer shuts off allowing the outside humidity to come back in via the vent hose.

Thanks guys!!! This dryer is 5 years old and the hose has never been cleaned!!!! I'm on it now.....well, I am going to go do my best!

You can buy brush to clean it. Check at your Lowes or Home Dept. Or there are people who will come out and clean it for you to the tune of about $100 or you can buy the brush for about $25. It isn't hard to clean, the Dh did ours.

Dryers are one of the leading causes of house fires. That is why you should never leave one running while gone.

Depending on what access you have, you should vacuum it out as much as you can. Our laundry room is on the main floor and we can access the metal tube in the basement ceiling. Once a year, DH opens it in the middle and stick the long shopvac house in it to pull out any lint build-up.
