Dropping off passengers with rental car

A search on this topic revealed no relevant posts (that I could find, anyway ) in the past few months.

For recent cruisers, what's the status of passenger drop offs at the terminal? We will be arriving with an Avis car the morning of our cruise and I'd like to drop everyone else and the luggage at the terminal, return the car to the Radisson, and take the shuttle back to the port. Earlier threads indicated this was a hassle because of where the passengers could be dropped, but I'm wondering if we can do this or would we be better advised to have everyone (and the luggage) together when we return the car?

If we do decide to drop off the rest of the family with the luggage, can they check the luggage before I return, or are they stuck twiddling their thumbs until I get back? And are the procedures for checking luggage different for non-Americans?

Also, what's the earliest time we can get in? We're planning on arriving at the port between 10:00 and 11:00am.

You definitely can drop your passengers and bags at the terminal curb. The porters will take the bags you want to check. The rest of your family can proceed into the terminal and wait for you while you return the car. Just be sure to keep your photo ID with you so when the shuttle drops you off (that WILL be across the street, I believe) you can walk across and get in to the terminal.

By photo ID do you mean driver's license? Should I take my DH's passport with me for check-in? Diana

A driver's license is fine for photo ID.

If you check your husband in he will still have to go to the counter himself and show his face to match his passport, once he gets back to the port. They need to match the IDs with the people checking in.

We are planning to do this also. Should DH also take HIS DCL documents with him? Will he have to show them at the gate when returning on the shuttle?

No, he doesn't have to show his docs, they will check his name against the passenger manifest and he does need his photo ID to get through the security checkpoints.

They might not need to see your husband if you check him in. My DH dropped off the kids and I. I checked us in and got in line while he parked the car. He joined us in line and only had to show his passport when boarding the ship (as did all of the adults).

I wonder if that will be slightly different for us, as I believe they keep the passports for all non-American citizens.

We just received our docs yesterday, and I'm assuming that several of the forms which we need to sign get surrendered to a DCL CM along the way. At what point does that happen?

Mike, all those forms are turned it when you check-in at the port. There is a separate line for non-U.S. citizens.
