Dropping nights from a current reservation?

Can this be done without canceling and rebooking no matter what night I'm dropping - first night, last night, etc.? Here's my situation:

I have 2 reservations in Sept. (5-day 2BR followed by a 7-day 1BR), but I want to switch the first 1BR night to a 2BR to accommodate my guests who decided to stay an extra night. Will that cause issues with my 1BR res? Assume that there's no availability currently and I'll be wait listing the 2BR for that night. I'm worried that they'll say, "We have to drop this res. and book in as a new reservation.", and then it might go "poof" in the time it takes to rebook (as in, it ends up fulfilling someone's wait list or something).

MS can modify the arrival and departure dates to shorten a reservation without needing to cancel a reservation.

If you want to modify your arrival or departure date to add days, MS can change the dates without needing to cancel BUT there must be availability for them to do so.

Excellent news. I've had to change this res. a few times already (the fun of having guests or potential guests), hopefully the 2BR will come through for me on the wait list. Thanks.
